  1. Greetings, here is a link to my "Edinburgh to Handa island and back" road trip show: https://www.sfrcloud.sfr.fr/web/app/share/invite/FTPHn7sLzq I hope it will work for you and that it is worth your download of the large file of 835 MB. It is a full HD version (the 4K version shows astonishing details on a large 4K TV screen, but the file is nearly 3 GB large). This is a complement (and a compliment) to the excellent "Edinburgh to Glasgow Road-Trip" by "goddi". Thank you again, Gary, for sharing. I hope you like to see some of my trip too, on the west coast of Scotland (mainly). [EDIT] At first you get the header « Le fichier ... est trop gros pour être lu. », i.e. the file is too big for immediate display, so that you cannot view the slideshow directly. One needs to hit the “Plus” button near the top right and then choose “telécharger”, i.e. “DONWNLOAD”. The other option (“Signaler du contenu injurieux”) is to report inadequate content.
  2. Indeed, this fabulous road can be tricky and on June 11th 2019 a lorry broke down and the road was blocked for most of the day south of Applecross.
  3. Thanks, Gary for sharing. Very pleasant to watch those familiar Scottish scenes, with the narrow roads (single lane) and "passing places". It seems you enjoyed the Yorkshire Pudding with your meals. BTW, I was inside the "Harry Potter" steam train on the Glenfinnan viaduct, but that was a year ago. Anyone passing by Scourie should consider spending a day on the Handa Island, a nature reserve for birds (puffins, razor bills, great (and lesser) skuas, guillemots,...). Between Balmoral and Grantown-on-Spey, the Highland games at Tomintoul are also worth a day. So much to see that it's a good reason to go back again... Thanks for this invitation to revisit those fantastic landscapes in your company.
  4. Many thanks, Igor, for providing these extra tools that we wished to have sometime. For the French version you could translate: "Save/reset font" by "Enregistrer/restaurer la police"; "Save font and use by default" by "Définir cette police comme celle par défaut" "Reset font to factory defaults" by "Revenir à la police de base du logiciel"
  5. Thank you Barry for this good tutorial that I enjoyed viewing thoroughly. I will try an use this method for my next slideshow.
  6. Thanks to both of you for the question and then the answer, which gives me a (yet unknown) feature of PTE to use.
  7. Can you please tell us how large was the initial JPEG file? If many shots are combined together, the result can indeed be huge, for a 360° panoramic view for instance. It would be good to know the practical limit. Did you resize first for the maximum vertical dimension of your slide show (1080 in full HD or 2160 pixels in 4K UHD)?
  8. Another potential source of invisibility in PTE: image should be coded as "RGB Color" (used for standard display on screen) and not "CMYK Color" (used for some high-end printers), as set in Photoshop with: Image / Mode.
  9. Thank you, Igor, for the good news. I can wait a few more weeks, that's okay. Still, I find it strange that exactly the same PTE input files can be handled on the laptop, while the very powerful desktop fails. As you state we're just on either sides of a thin border line. Both these computer are quite new (March this year), and I believe that my previous Desktop (5 years old) running on MS/Windows 7 would succeed in generating the 4K videos (but it took a long long time).
  10. I have trouble generating 4K videos on my high-spec desktop, while there is no problem on my laptop for the same 4 minutes slide show (33 views). The laptop is a very efficient machine, an MSI GS63 8RD-06FR Stealth. Otherwise, PTE runs fine and the EXE output files are OK. I use the latest PTE version 9.0.22 on MS/Windows 10. For an output in full HD (1920x1080) it takes 00:03:06 for 226 MB of MP4 file (on the Desktop). For a 4K version (3840x2160) the process stops in 00:08:45 with a very small 10 kB output file and there is no termination. For 4000x2250 pixels as output (for instance), the generating process freezes quickly, like for 4K, with the statement “Video Encoding 100%, Time Elapsed: 00:00:00 Time Remaining 00:00:00 ; and all I can then do is “cancel” and then confirm that I really want to “Terminate”. And then PTE itself crashes (no response)! I have tried many different sizes and 3390x1906 pixels gives an MP4 file of 514 MB that is OK. A slightly bigger definition of 3420x1923 pixels fails with again a 10 kB output and no proper termination of the file generation. The MSI laptop uses a GPU by NVIDIA: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 16 MB of RAM, while the Desktop has a GeForce RTX 2060 with 8 MB of RAM. Is that the difference? Will that problem be solved by the future PTE-10 version (64 bits)? Thank you for an idea...
  11. Wonderful! A new option to be tried out with PTE-10 ... soon,.
  12. Hi David I also have a tendency to add unwanted "children" to my animated objects. When that happens, it is easy to cut the child (CTRL X) from the list at the bottom right, then click outside any object present in the view and then paste the child (CTRL V) so it becomes free without a parent.
  13. You can also break the "chain link" at the right of the X & Y values for the zoom (by clicking on it), and then ajust the values independently for the two zoom factors. For instance, you may want to stretch horizontally a landscape shot in 4/3 format, in order to fill the 16/9 ratio of your TV screen ; in that case, the X-zoom factor to apply is 133% (Y-factor remaining at 100%), and it can be applied as a numerical figure, rather than visually by moving handles on the scrren. Both options are useful, of course.
  14. There is a feature absent from PTE but common in word processing programs (which PTE is not, I know) that allows to change the appearance of parts of a text: emphasis can easily be put on a word within a sentence, for instance, with a different colour or type-face (bold, italic, underline, small caps,…or a combination). It is available on this forum (as I type). I would like to have that facility within PTE, without having to enter different individual text blocks with their own attributes. I can use Photoshop to edit my texts, but that is cumbersome. Is there anyone else who would be interested in such a feature? Not a high priority, for sure, but if it is easy to implement, why not?
  15. Me too, like Pierre, would like to know during the process of creating a slideshow, whether a certain file (photo or video) has already been used or not ; This is to avoid unwanted repeats. The bold apppearance of file names is a good visual aid, but is limited to files directly inserted via the Timeline, and does not apply to embedded objects via "Objects and Animation".
  16. I do use the ratio 16/10 a lot, not so much because my graphic computer screen (LaCie 526) is also a native 1920 x 1200, but mainly when I do not want to crop my photographs (at 4/3 ratio) too much to fit the 16/9 HDTV standard. Please leave that ratio as a standard choice.
  17. Yes, very beautiful, and pleasant to watch (and listen to). Thank you.
  18. Hi Daniel The acceptable duration of the slide show really depends upon the interest of the intended audience, that's for sure. Concerning the file size, I thought PTE on 32 bits was limited to a maximum resulting file size of 3.9 GBytes (= Go or Giga octets, in French). The limit with PTE-8 was more 2 GB for an EXE file, I seem to recall. The total file size of 9.14 GB that you quote seems big ; is that for the resulting MP4 file or the full size video-clips before further clipping and downsizing?
  19. Dave G. I live in Nice, South of France, and about once a month there are two places nearby where travel photos and some videos are shown to the public, projected on a big screen together with music and description of the places visited; each of these shows lasts a total of about an hour and a half, with a short interval in the middle. These slide shows are given by a traveller after one or several trips to various areas in the world. The current program for the "Rendez-vous des Voyageurs", in Villeneuve-Loubet, can be found on: http://www.voyageurs06.fr/jeudi.htm The other venue is in Beausoleil, where the "Club des Reporters" hosts similar sessions to which I have contributed in the past (New-Zealand, Northern Vietnam, American Wild West, ...). This is organised by my photo club "Beausoleil Ciné Photo Club"; A summary of past events can be found on: http://www.photoclubbeausoleil.sitew.fr/#Club_des_Reporters.K You're welcome to attend these sessions, as they are are open to the public. Unfortunately, these shows are not broadcast or available on YouTube or other such channels.
  20. If you compute the number of slides that are shown every 5 seconds (the defaut in PTE ; I tend to choose 6 seconds instead), for a total show duration of 45 minutes (the maximum endurance of my audience!), then you need only 540 slides. This is not counting the actual "objects" in each slide, but gives a rough idea of a "reasonable" figure.
  21. Thanks Lin, for the step by step instructions, hopefully foolproof as always.
  22. Indeed, your recorded video file (from camera) contains the sequential images and also the sound track. In order to manage the sound level of your video, the procedure is to extract the sound from the video as a separately manageable item, and to mute the video to avoid any interference. My previous procedure was to create a physically separate audio file from the video, as if it came from a musical CD. That is not necessary as explained by Tonton Bruno, since all can be done within PTE. Neat!
  23. Super easy that way. Thank you, Tonton Bruno.
  24. Hi Bob The way I do that, is to extract the sound track from each video, then use them as separate files in the Timeline (making sure the synchronisation is OK between the video and the sound track). In PTE it is easy to have a silent video: in Objects and Animation, there is a video option: "Mute audio" which does exactly that. For extraction of the audio part from the video, I use VLC-media player from VideoLAN: Menu "Media", then "Convert/Record", and I select the profile as "WAV", no Video CODEC and MP3 as the Audio CODEC. I am sure there are other ways, maybe even from within PTE to extract the audio, but that works for me at present. Optionnally I also use the free software "Audacity" to set the overal volume, the balance between each channel, etc. ADDITION: In PTE, go to "Project Options", "Audio" tab, "Add Audio File" after selecting "video files" instead of "audio files" at the bottom right of the sreen (just above "open") and then at the bottom right of the screen: "Convert tracks to MP3 for EXE". The extracted audio track is pushed at the far end of the slideshow (after any existing other sound file, I think) and needs to be brought back under the video it belongs to.
