Hi Dom, Yes there are 'issues' with Apple-Mac O/S Systems and Windows-7 and in particular with "Mac-Lion O/S" and Parallels and Fusion 3/4 and over the past year there have been may discussions on the Forum about such problems. However to make matters worse a very frustrating scenario has developed because many Mac-users have enjoyed great success with Parallels & Fusion and others have experienced dismal failures with the Systems ~ and the resultant "fall-out" has not yet identified a singular common reason for this. Apple-Mac Corporation have identified problems and have issued an "in-depth" Report which also contains very many Links to 'repair-procedures' applicable to the Lion-O/S and Parallels & Fusion 3/4 issues. Potwnc, I have been 'scratching' my Head wondering how the little "4GB-Patch" actually works for XP-Memory expansion on a 64-Bit PC-Platform. (Although its named as "4GB-Patch" it only provides a claimed 2.GB of additional memory. In a 32-Bit PC-System the theorethical possible logic states are 2³² = 4.294 Giga-states which is 'analogous' to 4.29 GigaByte of Memory. But because XP uses 64.Bit Data-Width this reduces the available Memory to 2.14 Gb of 'Usable-memory' but in practice that availability is lower than 2.Gb by the amount of Physical-RAM Memory used by the XP-Operating-System ~ thats some 350.Mb without other demands. Effectively we only have access to some 1.65.Gb(Max) of User-RAM and less than 3.6.Gb of Virtual-Memory which is created on the HD and thats simply because its a 32.Bit System capable of addressing 4.Gb of Memory (thats its limit). The only way I can see an XP getting access to a 64.Bit-MemorySystem of a Win-7 PC is somehow by virtue of making its 64.Bit Data-Width address a "pre-programmed" 2.Gb-Partition on the Win 64-Bit Hard Drive thus creating 2.Gb of Virtual Memory and as 'virtual-memory' is quite slow it would require a Triple/Quad-Processor PC to run a PTE-Exe in those circumstances. Another way is to create a 'Virtual-Drive' on the 64.Bit HD-Drive but this again is another form of 'partition' and will have the same speed limitations in running a PTE.Exe given that only 1.65.Gb of User-RAM is actually available due to the 32.Bit addressing routine.....I wonder am I missing something here ?? I Note from the 'Next-Core' documentation that it makes a 'Copy' of the XP-File (PTE.Exe) and works on that rather than the original and I wonder why this is so ?? ~ or indeed is this an exact Copy ~ or is it a 'pre-processes' Copy for working in the 64.Bit Virtual-Memory environment. (See attachment) The "4GB-Patch Utility" seems to be quite simple ~ no harm in trying it ~ provided it comes with its own Uninstaller ?? If not ~ forget it because an un-used Partition or Virtual-Drive can cause serious 'havoc' with its Host-Operating System should it become corrupted in any way. Lin, Many thanks for your comment about 'semantics' and you are correct ~ thats exactly what I was getting at, and its those randomised problems which has confused Joy/Photofanatic right up to to her last Post of 19th November 2011. Many have tried to help her but we have not had a reply since her last Post ~ I do hope she has resolved her problems by now. Concerning Mpeg-2/AAC/AC3 Video-Files, I have to work in that Format for purpose of 'universality' because I have no prior knowledge of the age of DVD-Players which I encounter in my daily work so each of my 'Lecture-DVDs' contain both TS-Video/TS-Audio Folders for them to work properly on any DVD-Players which I encounter (Authorising) ~ I certainly said nothing about Home-DVD which was alluded to by the previous #36 Poster. Hi Tom, Many thanks for the 'Tech-Backup Data' ~ much appreciated. I absolutely agree with you that this new 'Common-Interface' trend is certainly on the Books and Win-8 is no exception. You may not know that Microsoft developed Win-7 here in Ireland, they have big Software-Utilities here in Co.Dublin. The local software-gossip certainly pointed to some form of agreement between MS & Apple in trying to get some type of 'Cross-Platform Adaptor' up and running so to benefit both Corporations ~ I think that would be a great advantage to both parties and their Worldwide-Customer base. To me some form of 'Bootcamp' might emerge. There seems to be a lot of interest in the "Win-8 Preview-Program" because up to today there has been an amount of downloads from my No#1 Post above. Respectively 67~85~77~50 of each Image and 20 Program downloads. Best of "Luck" with your intended future choice of OP-System ~ I dont envy you with that job. Brian.(Conflow)

Mairijim and Lmoreels, This is for the benefit of Joy who has had so many problems with Windows/Mac/Fusion-4 ~ Yes "Ashampoo-6" will create an excellent Universal-DVD which will play on most DVD-Players and modern TV-Sets with Disc-input. This German-Program is really excellent and in my opinion its far better than 'Nero' and extremely stable but it also executes one "critical-stage" not found in other Burner-Software. It imports your DVD-Media and then proceeds to 'Authorise-it' and if your DVD-format is correct then it will copy the Media to 'Memory-dump' and proceed onwards with the Burning. This creates the Video-TS and Audio-TS Folders to the DVD-ISO Standards. (If your format is not correct it will advise you of same). Joy, whether you can emulate this with Fusion-4 ~ I simply dont know, but be advised that Igor has recommended the use of 'Bootcamp' for the cross-platform emulation. Brian.(Conflow) P.S. Tom, Its always a pleasure to get your comments and as far as I can determine Win-8 seems to be a vastly improved version of Win-7 with better stability and a (new) "MAC-Clone Interface" which seem's to encourage the User towards the modern "Apps Culture" of doing things. The absence of the 'Start-Button' and 'Shutdown' and the 'Mac-Type Interface' will no doubt confuse many Windows users ~ but like it or not its the way things are going. Tom, if you have some time could you examine the "Windows to MAC" compatibility issues as I had heard that Microsoft had talks with Apple about this....there might be some truth in it ~ but I cant confirm it. This utility lets you know if your current PC is suitable for a Win-8 Upgrade. Hi All, Yes this also true in Ireland ~ Forum-Pages are very slow to open and most times I have to Log-off and Log-on again and thereafter things seem to work O.K although when browsing the site one or two pages are like 'Snail-Mail' when opening. Cause This is not a traffic problem but it certainly has all the hallmarks of a 'rogue' Phishing-Utility which is clearly identified as such with "MS-Security Essentials". Next time it happens look at the 'tiny' green/yellow Icon in the Taskbar, if it is rotating the MS-Phishing Filter has been activated and that takes time to scan any Phishing-Utility. If you want to "chance-it" go to Tools on RH/top of the Page ~ Left-Clk Tool button and from the drop-down Menu select -->Phishing-Filter,then -->Turn-off Auto Web Check. David, Many thanks or your reply and your full explaination as to what "DigitalDaub" actually is.... For those who wish to use the Program it would seem to impart highly personalized and dramatic effects to any Slideshow and I can see another aspect of the Program, namely "Copyright" viz:- Copyright Assuming that the Images are 'randomised' and are rarely if ever repeated then the incorporation of those into an Original-Slideshow by the (original) Author would be prima-facia proof of that authors ownership of the 'effects' if the Exe would be Titled and date/time stamped. Igor and WnSoft Team, Many thanks for the Pte4.49 'update' ~ In our Workshop we use 6.5 for more complex Technical-Reports but having said, that we also use 4.49 as our general 'Slideshow-Workhorse' because its simple and reliable and works on all PCs. We create simple (personalised) Start-Windows with Run-Stop-Help Buttons which we use as Chapter-introduction's thats most important to us. Now if we could get an AVI-File from it that would be 'icing' on the Cake....but thats probably a wish too far !! May I compliment you Guys for looking after your Software (old or new) its a real credit to you all compared to other Vendors who simply abandon their 'old-versions' without consideration of its special-usages in many unique applications such as ours. BeTa, I had appreciated that you were using a 'Small-Format Camera' but as I had said in Item #2 of my previous Post you must de-interlace for viewing on LED/LCD PC-Screens as they are 'progressive-scanned' not raster-scanned. Usually the same applies to Home-made DVD ~ however Commercial-DVD's are designed for both Scanning-Systems. There is a vast difference between MPeg.2 Video ~versus~ MPeg.4 Video. The former was designed for Film-DVD production on 'Raster-scanned' TV-Sets but for the past few years they have incorporated the ability to work on 'progressive-scan' systems (Attachment in my last Post explains that). As for MPeg.4 Video this was designed for 'progressive-scan' Screens which include PC-LED/LCD Screens and TV-Plasma-Screens and very modern Video-Players capable of playing Video-DVD and Blue-Ray. Most of these modern Video-Players will handle MPeg.4 Video ~ however 'older' Video-Players will not play MPeg.4 Videos nor AVCHD, just Standard DVD with some Avi-options. It is very difficult for 'Amateur-DVD Makers' to come up with a standard 'Universal-DVD' which plays on all Video-Players including LED/LCD & Plasma Screens irrespective whether they are PC's or Television-Sets and Mobile-devices,etc..... It all depends on the Program preparation & Format and the final 'Authoring-Software' the latter costs money. Having said that, MPeg.4-Video offers the best alternative's to PTE Video-Users for use on modern reproduction equipment. (Attached: Link to DVD Authoring-Programs) Brian.(Conflow)

BeTa, I had a look at the 'Motion-Picture Program' which was last seeen on the Web in 2004. I now understand what you are trying to achieve which in electronic terms is called 'successive-approximation' to develop interleafed images between 2 Primary-Images which creates seamless motion. This technology is also used in 'Slow-Motion Playback' for Television rendition. Essentially you have 3 problems:-- 1) You need to know the "Video-Format" which is being out-putted by your Camera, there are many formats. 2) TV-Interlaced and 2/3 Interleafed Outputs must be "de-interlaced" for viewing on LED/LCD PC.Screens. 3) Windows Media-Player cant do this (except Win-7 Player) ~ VLC-Player does a far better job than most. Having 'deinterlaced' the Camera-Video you will need an 'AVS-Video Editor/Converter' to get it into a new acceptable Format such as MPeg-2 or MP4-Asf ~ that choice all depends on the Camera Output-Format. Please Note: If your Video is for Television the replay quality on your PC will be far below that of your TV-Set. The only suite of comprehensive Programs to do this job is "AVS4-ForU" see attachment.(Wiki) and also see (attachment) about AVCHD and AVCSD Camera-Output Formats ~ there are others.(Wiki) Hope its of some help. BeTa, Glad to be of help and I see that you have cracked the 'Camera-Frame' problem and even with simple Camera-Avi outputs most Converters will drop the 'even' or 'odd' frame depending on their Software design. May I suggest the 'NCH Prism-Converter' which gives you a 15 day 'Free-Trial' ~ this works perfectly when converting the Pte-Avi into a fully (digital) interleafed Avi which converts perfectly into a fully operational 'WMV-Video' where in my case its 1280x720 pixel with full Pan & Zoom at Video-Bitrate of 6200.Kbps. At this stage you have a Video which can be Authorised into an Mp4-Video or Mpeg-2 Video (fully-Interlaced) to PAL or NTSC with AAC or AC3 Sound-Format. BeTa and Jenni, I have been following this Video-thread with interest because in the past I also had this problem with other Video-Software and from what I have read here, there seems to be 'confusion' with the word 'Interlace' and its true alternative meaning's between Camera-Video and Television-Video. 1) Most Camcorders & Camera-Video files are (internally) recorder as 'Raw-Consecutive Images' which are called 'Interlaced-Images' ~ this is is not true, more later. 2) Televisions, whether they be NTSC or PAL Systems use "true" interlacing which I will describe:- TV-Interlacing:- When you view a TV-Screen the Video is made up of successive 'Visual-Frames' where in Europe(PAL) there are 25.Fps (Frames/second) and in America(NTSC) there are 30.Fps. Irrespective of Standards ~ Each and every 'Visual-Frame' is a composite construction of 2 Screen-scans which are invisable to the human eye. In our PAL-System there are 625 Lines drawn* across the Screen from top to bottom ~then a syncpulse~ and again a further 625 Lines are drawn* these interleaved with the original lines drawn. The composite of both scans are now 'interlaced' to make one Visual-Frame. (drawn* means scan) Why is this so ? Should there be any motion in the Video this is rendered by moving the contents of each alternate Line slightly to the left or right as needed, hence our eyes are fooled into seeing motion by the simple expediency of Vision-Latency which is a human attribute. Camcorders & Cameras. These devices use a different 'Motion-Vision System' in that they take a number of 'Successive-Raw Images' and when out-putted to a PC they are usually resolved down to 2 or 3 successive-images which depend on Software to combine both into a 'Quasi-Interleafed Image' which they erroneously name as an Interlaced-Image. (This depending on the Camera-Software in use). PTE in Usage It would be very difficult for PTE to resolve all "interleafed" Camera-Videos when one considers the plethora of Cameras in the market place and in my experience most Camera Video-Software will only produce a 'Quasi-Video' for direct-viewing on (modern) Digital TV-Sets which can resolve 25/30.Fps or else it can be played on (modern) Computers which are capable of resolving the 25/30.Fps Frame-rate. (Exceptions:Interlacing-Cameras built to PAL/NTSC Standards) Solution: Convert the entire Camera-File into genuine NTSC or PAL Video Standard with a program such as "Movadi" or the many others available.... I hope this "simple" explaination will highlight the differences between 'Interleafed' and 'TV-Interlace' and consequently I hope it will point you in the right direction.(See Attachments PDF and Zip) NOTE: The Zip-File contains a direct Web-Link to an example Program Brian.(Conflow)

John, Yes these problems can occur on various Laptops this depending on the Make & Model No: and age of the Laptop. The Audio noise is common to all Laptops where the audio-signals are taken from the Headphone-Output and where the 'Recorded-Audio' levels were too low in the 1st.instance. Proper recording levels are between 90~96db and anything lower that 60db will result in noisy reproduction as the noise-recording becomes an integral part of the Soundtrack, whereafter heavy amplification to bring up the levels also brings up the noise.Then again other Laptops are generically 'noisy' and there is nothing you can do about it except extract the Audio in digital-format from a HDMI-socket into peripheral equpment for replaying. (There are other methode depending on the particular Laptop). Concerning the 'Video-lines' on the Projector-Screen but not on the Laptop is usually a problem of 'older' Projectors not having enough 'spooling-memory' to pre-process your Show before projection. Much 'older' Projectors use 'real-time' projection and can not resolve 'movement' within an Image. Put bluntly if the Projector can show a DVD then it will also render your Slideshow. There are other possible causes of this ~ it could be Mains-noise or extraneous pick-up etc; ??? Hope this helps... Brian.(Conflow)

I completely agree with you, it should be on the Forum FAQ's and I will go further,there should be a 'Listing-Section' called "Utilities Software" which by personal choice would certainly help many PTE-Users get the very best from the PTE-Program. Nobeefstu, Nice little "Tip" thank you ~ and in IE-8 if you Left.Click within the Image it goes Full-Screen for me thats 1200x800. Eric & Argonaut, Yes many Laptop & Monitor Screens behave differently for a given Screen-size ~ for example a 15" Screen will behave diferently on a Laptop compared to a Desktop-Monitor. The Image-Exif Data is usually correct so why the differences ?? That depends on the Native-Resolution of the Screen in terms of Pixel-width x Pixel-height and how much Safe-area the Manufacturer has given on the RH.side of the Screen and whether the Screen has been Set-up for:- "Full-Screen" or "Centre-Desktop" or "Preserve-Aspect Ratio" How do you know ?? please see the attachment (with Instruction) as to what the (generic) Native-Resolution of your Screen really is. Be aware that there will be a ±5% error of the given figures due to Manufacturers "Sides-overaps" this to counteract dead-edges in the visable Display. As you will see, there are many "interactive-options" available when setting-up your Screen but do try and keep it at its Native-Resolution (Full-Screen) the other selections are for specialist work solely. Tom, Many thanks ~ those Images worked perfectly on 15" Laptop-Screens ~ I must say, "beautiful shots". I have done some calculations in respect of 15" Laptop Screeens and the results are as,viz:- 1) Browsers with a Left-Side Tool/Folder-Panel = Image Size should not exceed 850.Pixel wide (approx). 2) Full Browser Window (No side Panels) = Image Size should not exceed 1050.Pixel wide (approx). 3) Your Images from the left are approx:- 800.Pix ~ 650.Pix ~ 800.Pix - roughly what I had calculated. in (1) above. Eric and All, Eric I really do appreciate your last Post and the Attachment ~ And by way of example I have "Full Screen-Copied" your attachment as it appears on a HP-Laptop 15½" Screen of 1200x800 Pixels ~ which is a very common Laptop-Format. You can see for yourself how big it really is on a 15"-Laptop and how marginal the "Close-Button" is to the edge and there is no more adjustment latitude for scrolling... Others "without consideration" park monster Attachments on the Forum and thats happening regularily as time goes by. It may be that they simply dont know, or dont use an Image-Editor, or cant use one, but at least the Automatic-ReSizer does it for them. Edit: As far as IE-8 is concerned the only way of getting large Images on to a 15"Screen is to use the Magnification-Tool in the 'Status-Bar' provided the Tool is turned on.
