Crossfades/dissolves during pan is one of the most difficult to create without visible hesitation. Every pixel changes on the screen simultaneously. What are your computer specs include GPU and graphics memory (GB)? Tom

LOL. I think Igor has forgotten the Scotty Principle. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Scotty Principle

I remember working with Lin on the gramophone (has it been 8 years??). This forum has been around a long time. I thought it would be a good learning experience since it used many features of PTE. The original inspiration was based on a PTE jukebox if I remember correctly. I don't have the PTE source to the gramophone but it shouldn't be too hard to create. I like the new and improved version you guys are working on. Much nicer graphics. Tom

We have until July 29, 2016 to upgrade for free (from Windows 7 or higher). Then you will need to buy an OEM version (about $100) or a new PC with Windows 10 installed. https://www.amazon.com/s?field-keywords=windows+10+oem

My day job requires me to patch linux servers. Skipping software updates due to end of life product is not an option for me. At the same time I try to wait a few months after a new version is released before upgrading so the early adopters can find the bugs. Tom

Why bother upgrading an operating system? Why use Photoshop CC when you could be using Photoshop 1.0? Security updates are important if your computer is connected to the internet or you share files between computers. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

As far as upgrade costs go I think wnsoft has to pay a license fee for x264 and dvd burner dll. To give away free upgrades forever would be a negative profit. I think it might be worth looking again at dropping dvd burning. Most users watch streaming hd video instead of low quality mpeg-2 dvd. Tom

After 48 hours I think it is safe for me to reply. This is the last comment from Igor. It has taken much longer to develop PTE 9 than previous versions. I think the develop and release cycle was approximately every year before PTE 9. One can only guess why it has taken much longer. Maybe it was completely rewritten in another programming language. Maybe he has added a Mac slideshow editor. Software release dates are not very accurate. I have been waiting for No Man's Sky to be released in June only to find out it's been delayed until August.

If you have problems with smooth playback of 60 fps HD videos in YT you might want to try this browser extension. It enables h.264 video hardware acceleration which most modern graphics cards support. You can search for h264ify in your browser extensions. Here is the developer website. https://github.com/erkserkserks/h264ify Tom

Fonts used to be packed in back-up zip
tom95521 replied to Roel's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Hi Eric, The suggestion is when editing a slideshow on a different computer that may not have the same fonts installed. It would be nice to have the font files included in the slideshow source files backup zip. I almost always use the same computer to create slideshows and rarely use custom fonts. Slideshow viewing makes no difference because the fonts are (somehow) converted into a vector format that can be scaled without losing resolution. The rasterize to PNG option is not really needed. Sorry for my confusion of the topic. You are NOT talking about embedding the ttf/otf fonts in the .exe or binhex into the .pte file, but only in the backup .zip file. The reference to special fonts in the .pte source requires copying to another computer. There are many free fonts https://www.google.com/fonts available, but some fonts are not free and the type foundry might not like this idea. Tom -
I have used their Photoshop simplify filter and it created some cool images. I am not affiliated with Topaz Labs or they are not paying me to mention this sale. I did receive an email with the information a few days ago. If you have been considering purchasing the complete photo collection (like me) there is a spring sale using the code SPRINGSUMMER2016 during checkout. The price is $299.99 instead of the normal $499.99. The sale ends May 22. I don't know if this offer is valid outside the United States. http://www.topazlabs.com/store

You should be able to customize your keyboard in Parallels or use the default mapping. I can't do much testing right now because I am moving next week so most of my computer equipment is in storage. http://blog.parallels.com/2015/07/14/using-keyboard-shortcuts-with-parallels-desktop-for-mac/ Tom

Hi Dave, I just use a Logitech M310 wireless mouse. Long battery life. USB nano-receiver (can be stored inside battery compartment) that I can move between computers (Chromebook, 2010 Macbook Pro, Lenovo IdeaPad) without configuring bluetooth. I have a few of these mice in different colors and they don't interfere with each other when used close together. It has a scroll wheel in the middle that works on Mac and Windows/Parallels/PTE 8. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-mouse-m310 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=logitech+m310 Tom

PTE 9 *might* be be available soon for both Windows and Macs (slideshow viewer and editor). Hosted hypervisors like VMware Fusion and Parallels that require a copy of Windows usually have a slight performance penalty (about 5%) over native code. Igor has been quiet about new features in PTE 9 compared to previous versions. Usually a major version was released about every year. I think it's been about 2 years now since PTE 8 was released. PTE 9 code might be a complete rewrite of code using a different programming language so it is easier to compile cross platform. Tom

I have not had a problem with Windows fonts since maybe version 7 of PTE. They seem to play fine on my Mac and I know the fonts are not installed on my Mac. It's probably been a year or longer since I have tested but it was working for me. I remember that Adobe Flash and I think Acrobat could embed fonts. Fonts do not seem to be an issue for me. Tom -

What can we expect in version 9 ?

I thought it was "A watched kettle never boils"? I'm glad that Igor posted an update. Tom -
I would suggest you look for a newer 2016 model laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port. Then in the future you could use an external graphics card with multiple monitors. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/five-years-later-thunderbolt-is-finally-gaining-some-traction-in-pcs/ Devices http://www.wegotserved.com/2016/01/11/10-great-thunderbolt-3-products-2016/ Windows 10 Laptop http://www.winbeta.org/news/ces-2016-acer-travelmate-p648-aims-please-professional-road-warrior Tom

I have upgraded all my Windows 7/8 PCs because I was tired of getting daily alerts about the free upgrade and I didn't feel like blocking the alerts. No problems with PTE 8. My primary operating system is now Linux (Fedora 23 xfce). I remote desktop into a Windows box if I need to run a Windows program (not PTE). Maybe when PTE 9 is released I will start using Windows again. I also have a couple of Kangaroo portable PCs running 24/7 that have Windows 10 home pre-installed on them that I use for web browsing and monitoring security cameras. Tom

You want to see the focus of the button/text like you can in a DVD menu with a remote? Not quite the same as mouse over. I'm not near a Windows PC with PTE installed but if you read the docs maybe it will help figure out how to set focus. http://docs.picturestoexe.com/en/techniques/button#properties_of_the_button_text Tom

Parallels is a great hosted hypervisor. There is the added expense of Parallels and the Windows operating system. A native Mac PTE editor would be ideal. Tom
