  1. Kind of busy but a short after dinner ride to test the new camera. I think the rattle sound is from the front LED light bouncing off the rack when going over a slight bump in the road. I will try to do a real road test and a dual camera test soon. The camera does get warm. The user interface has many more options than my Yi camera. From my limited testing I think the hypersmooth works better than the Yi image stabilization.

  2. My GoPro and accessories arrived a couple of days ago. Busy with a room remodel so I just opened the box this morning. Missing the 64 GB microSD memory card (new card arrives on Tuesday). I also have a dual camera mount so I should be able to compare videos from both cameras.  My bike is a hardtail (no rear shock absorbers). I have a couple of seats with seat posts. One of them has an elastomer shock absorber seat and linkage seat post suspension system (SunTour NCX).

  3. I agree 100%. Igor and WnSoft provide the best support. I have been using computers for about 45 years and many operating systems and applications. To get replies directly from a programmer is amazing.

  4. Yes.  The GoPro Volta adds about 4 hours of recording time (if your memory card is large enough). Some people have had problems with the USB interface not working as a remote, with the bluetooth still working. It's supposed to be fixed with a firmware upgrade.

Also the 155 deg. FOV max lens mod for maximum hypersmooth and level correction.

  5. I have a seldom used 2 year old Yi 4K action camera (GoPro clone). Recently started e-biking and thought I would try to capture video. I notice image stabilization problems on rough country roads. I am thinking of upgrading to a GoPro 10 and use hypersmooth or reelsteady to stabilize the video. Also I am upgrading my e-bike seat with suspension system that might help.

Does anyone have a GoPro and have they created biking or hiking videos?  How is your stabilization compared to the video below. Some of the YouTube videos look amazing but never sure if they give impartial reviews or payed influencers.

  6. If you want to try to chroma key the background then you could try using Google Chrome and press F12 to get into DevTools. Then you can adjust the background color by editing the html code.

    Remove app-bg and bg-image-full from <div class="app-bg bg-image-full bg-classic"></div>.
    Select a background-color from .bg-classic.

I'm not sure about using a video alpha channel (limited to certain codecs)  unless it's an animated gif.

  7. My results from comparing encode times using the very versatile Shutter Encoder software.  I was surprised how much faster the AMD Ryzen was for AV1 encoding compared to the Mac Mini using Shutter Encoder. The H.264 encoding time is the same.

The fastest encoding was 1 min 49 sec on the Mac mini M1  (almost real time) using Wondershare Filmora 10 or 11. AV1 is apparently not supported on the Windows version of Filmora.

The new Intel AV1 GPU encoder is supposed to be 50x faster than CPU encoding.

    Source video 1080p 33 Mb/s 1min 44sec 432 MB
Output  video  converted to 5 Mb/s
Mac Mini M1 SSD macOS 12.3.1
    H.264 HW  33 sec  69 MB
    H.264 CPU 1 min 25 sec 69 MB
    AV1  CPU   16 min 39 sec 67.8 MB (11x slower than H.264 CPU, 30x slower than H.264 HW)

AMD Ryzen 2700 SSD Nvidia 1660 Win 11
    H.264 HW 27 sec 69 MB
    H.264 CPU 1 min 25 sec 69 MB
    AV1  CPU  3 min 8 sec  66 MB (2.2x slower than H.264 CPU, 7x slower than H.264 HW)

    Update: April 5
I am now getting faster than realtime encoding in the M1 version of Filmora 11.
The Sample Project is 2 min 36 sec and the AV1 encoder is finished in 2 min 15 sec (>60 fps).
When AV1 is added to PTE AV Studio I hope it works as fast.

  8. Future Windows personal computers will also have System On Chip (SoC) technology. It makes more sense to have a single large chip with shared cpu, memory, and graphics on a high speed backbone. My 2020 model M1 mac mini has been very fast and reliable.

  9. Hi Rosy,

This brings back old memories. In the 1960s my older brother was a mechanic in a foreign auto repair shop. He owned a very cute little Austin Healey bugeye Sprite that he painted bright yellow. He then upgraded to the faster Austin Healey 3000 he painted bright red with electric shift overdrive and also a BSA 441 Victor dirt bike. The bike was single cylinder and it was a real thumper. I think it had a compression release to make it easier to kick start.

    Thanks,
    Tom

  10. They are really easy to make if you have an evenly lit green background. Even then the reflected light from the green can leave a tint or halo around the foreground object if the lighting is not perfect. Green screens have been replaced in movies and news channels by projection or HDTV backgrounds because it removes the green halo effect.

    Shame, a good idea though.

I created ptearchive.com site when playing with php.  I thought when I retired a few years ago I would have more free time. I kept the site active only because I have other sites so it is not an added expense (other than domain registration).

    Thanks,

  12. I have been testing the Plex Media Server on my Mac mini (free version, not Plex pass). It supports both DLNA and Plex clients.  I prefer the Roku Plex client over the Roku DLNA Media player. No playback hesitation but it does buffer at the beginning of the video when using Direct Play. This happens on video repeat so it might be due to limited buffer size on the Roku.  I have another Roku with extra microSD storage that I need to test. Since it's an older Sony model I can only view videos in 1080p. I have not tried transcoding options.
