Ron, When I tried it after your first post I used a BUTTON and got the same result as you - I haven't been able to repeat the problem. DG

I've had my new PC for a couple of weeks and so far I'm very pleased. It's silent in operation. I have partitioned the 2Gb HDD into two 1Tb drives (C for OS and Programmes; Z for data) and will add another 1Tb Internal HDD soon for backup. All scratch discs and temp data for NX2 and PS will be on the new drive. Here's the spec from the manufacturers: Processor - Intel® Core™ i7-2600 processor (3.4 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache) Operating System - Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit RAM - 8GB Graphics card - Nvidia GeForce GT 545 (3 Gb Dedicated RAM) Hard drive - 2TB Optical disk drive - Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner Memory card reader - 15-in-1 memory card reader USB - 10 (2 - SS USB) WiFi - WiFi 802.11b/g/n Audio interface - 1 audio line in, 1 audio line out, 1 analog audio in, 2 analog audio out TV output - 1 DVI (VGA via adapter); 1 HDMI Sound - Onboard / High Definition Audio 5.1 DG

Now that's weird! I tried it when I read Ron's post and it happened just as he described. (Vista). I've tried it again on 3 different OS and it will not happen. ?? DG

Ken, Please forgive me - I don't understand "WIPE THEM OUT"? When using AVG I had some alerts. I was aware of the "problem" of them being "false positives" so I clicked on the "X" top right of the alert and the alert box went away. I still could not open the EXE but it was not "Wiped Out" - it remained where it was until the "problem" was fixed. It did not go into quarantine or disappear forever. If it were a GENUINE threat it would only be harmful if played and AVG would not allow that. Am I missing something? DG Contented MSE user .

I confirm this behaviour. DG

Good news Igor. It would help to know when? DG

Well done Stu, The only question which remains is: Why would it default to O&A on the Vista Machine and to Customize Slide on the W7? (Rhetorical). Probably because the View Options on the Vista have evolved over many years and the W7 is a first time installation and Customize Slide is the default default. Thanks again, DG
-
Thanks PM - it sounds like a W7 issue? DG
-
I have V7.0.3 running on my Vista Laptop. Double click on a slide - it brings up the O&A dialogue. I have V7.0.2 running on an XP machine. Double click on a slide - it brings up the O&A dialogue. I have V7.0.2 running on a my W7 machine. Double click on a slide - it brings up the Customize Slide dialogue. Upgraded the W7 machine to V7.0.3. Double click on a slide - it STILL brings up the Customize Slide dialogue. DG

Thanks to all who responded. I think that we managed to raise the profile of PTE just a little. DG

Boogie, Think about a football made this way. When it is inflated each of the Pentagons and Hexagons assume a "domed" shape. Also think that most regular 3D shapes can be made from TRIANGLES. A cube, for instance, can be made from 24 triangles (four triangles per face). By making each of the pentagons and hexagons in the Icosahedron from slightly stretched triangles, the point at which each of the triangles meets (the apexes) would be slightly raised above the plane of the "parent" pentagon or hexagon. This would approximate the "dome" effect achieved by inflating the object. In theory it can be done..................... DG

Hi Mick, For my part I am happy to go with the Default setting. I have a 16Gb USB Key which, when it is full, I will replace with another 16Gb Key. I have tried connecting a 500Gb HDD to my TV and it works well. Used with a short cable and hidden behind the TV it is quite unobtrusive. I also tried a 1Tb drive but the TV would not read it. I think (with my TV) that 500Gb is the limit. DG

There's a direct question here asking for suggestions for Slide Show Software: http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?p=3757848#post3757848 If all of you regulars were to chip in with a plug for Pictures to EXE it might do Igor a lot of good? Registering is free and only takes a few moments (you don't have to be a Nikon owner). DG

Mick, I'm willing to accept that not everyone is going to see EXACTLY the same things when viewing with these methods. However, there is a marked difference between Laptop/VGA and Laptop/HDMI on my system when outputting a 1920x1080 EXE file. WRT the HD MPEG4 file I have done a little testing and in the end decided that the default settings for 1920x1080 are as good as any when creating files for the USB option. The test that Peter refered to above was WRT Black/White gradients in both top to bottom and side to side configurations. When comparing the Laptop/HDMI/EXE version with the MPEG4 version I'm seeing slightly worse stepping in the gradient in th MPEG than the EXE. It's a severe test but nevertheless it's there albeit slight (in my tests). DG

I'm afraid that I have to agree. I have been putting a Menu and PTE EXE show together with a variety of versions and have noticed no problems whatsoever. Whatever was causing that problem a while ago SEEMS to have gone away. DG.

look for icosahedron at beechbrook. dg

create a folder which cintains the menu project and the exe files you are linking to. create the menu exe in the same folder. the menu exe will not include the linked objects. they remain seperate. if you want to move the whole thing to another computer move the folder containing the menu exe and the linked exe files. dg

Hello Daniel, Thanks for that. Both Celou and I had no replies to our posts and I missed your post back in April. DG

Ed, You don't have to purchase a disc. You can download the trial and get that running at home. You can then purchase the licence (from the library computer?) - it will be sent (almost immediately) to your e-mail account and once again you can transfer it to your computer at home via memory key (or even write it down on paper). It will not need an internet connection to authorise it. DG
-
Ed, 1) Yes. Presumably you have another computer which is connected to the Internet. You can download updates and Beta versions to the Internet Machine and transfer them to the non-Internet machine by memory key to install. 2) Yes and yes. DG

Was there not a V7 and then V7.0.1 and then a V7.0.2 and finally a V7.0.3? Gary could be refering to V7.0.2 rather than V7 Beta 2? DG

xaver i noticef this behaviour when making my bouncing ball example. there seemed little point in posting because the norm these days is either "unhelpful" comment or no comment at all. IGOR it is annoying. dg
