  1. Thanks, Ken, for the reminder. I had forgotten about that thread, too - after all it was way back in June!
  2. Ken, That's the correct format - I seem to be downloading it successfully at the moment.
  3. Mario, This is quite simple if you are using linear panning and zooming - just give the child the opposite pan and/or zoom values from those of the parent, at the point where you want it to stop. This method is also effectively used where you want the child to remain upright while the parent rotates.
  4. I get an error too - something to do with Javascript not working properly.
  5. Peter, This used to happen with some of the earlier beta versions of v.5. When you close both the intro sequence and the "second" sequence, do they still show in the Task Manager? If so, reboot the pc, and try again. Re the glimpse of the desktop between shows, this is normal, and is one of the issues Igor will be looking into.
  6. Thanks, Gilio That sounds like a great projector!
  7. Gail, See the correction above to my previous post - didn't want you to think you had to pay for still another key if you had purchased the whole "PTE Deluxe" package. If you simply upgraded to PTE v.5 from v.4, you would have received the software for VB, but not the license to use it. Re the avi's, Video Builder is designed to accept version 5 slideshows or video files such as "avi". However, I'm not sure if it will accept all "avi" files. Ken says "no", and he is usually right. However, you could try it (there is a free trial period for Video Builder). It does accept avi files created in VB itself, and it will also create avi files of your PTE shows to use with other third-party video programs.
  8. Gail, As Ken indicated, Video Builder is the name of the DVD program that is bundled into the software package when you purchase the new "PTE Deluxe". It also includes the latest PTE v.5. So you probably have it already in a separate folder in the PicturesToExe folder. You have to purchase a new registration key in order to use it, however. If you enjoy using PTE, there is no need to stop, just because it now contains a lot more new features (after all, the main program is free for all former users of PTE v.4.). Most of the basic operations of the program are still the same, or at least similar. Note: I should have said "when you download the new 'PTE Deluxe', not "purchase" it. If you purchase the entire deluxe package, you should receive the registration key for Video Builder at the same time as the regular key for PTE. If you already have PTE, you can upgrade to "PTE Deluxe", and just pay for the Video Builder portion.
  9. Hi, Shirley, Welcome to the Forum! Yes, you can easily copy the PTE files over to your newer pc, including the registration keys (one for PTE and one for VideoBuilder). Then install PTE ("SETUP.EXE" file) and double-click on the registration key ("PTE.KEY" or "REG.KEY", or something like that) to install it into the registry. When you run VB the first time, just browse to the registration key in the VB folder and it too will be installed in the registry. You should also install SP2 on your Win XP operating system, as it will then give you the version of Direct X that you need to run PTE v.5. Best of luck!
  10. e-photo, I went with a WXGA projector, and have been pleased with the resolution. It will project at 1280x768 native resolution, so that is the size I use for most of my sequences these days. I also have a wide-screen laptop, which can also be set to this resolution. A WSXGA projector at 1680x1050 would be even better, but the difference in price is quite large compared to the increase in picture definition. But you will probably want to be able to project HD movies, so that is a consideration as well.
  11. Dave, Before you give up on it, there's one more thing you could try. It's called "EndItAll" - it works wonders with my laptop in getting PTE to run smoothly (HP Pavillion with Win XP SP2, and a Radeon X600 video card with 128 Mb VRAM). You can find out about this program at the following: http://www.docsdownloads.com/enditall-1.htm Just one button closes all but the most essential processes on your pc. If I don't run it before loading PTE or an exe file, I sometimes get glitches at the end of the transitions, depending on how many objects are all trying to function at once.
  12. Gail, Why are you trying to create an "avi" file? Why not go directly to a "dvd" like nobeefstu suggested? "Avi's" are a bit dated, anyway, and were only used with PTE originally in order to create an intermediate format that a 3rd party program like Nero, etc., could use to produce a dvd. Today we can go directly to a dvd with VideoBuilder. This is the best way to share slideshows with people without pc's or with macs.
  13. Ken is correct - you need to add some music in order to preview on the timeline.
  14. As I mentioned in my post, it's wide-screen (same as my projector). Max. resolution (and the one I have it set at most of the time) is 1680x1050. I have to sit with it 6 inches from my nose to read anything! Try setting your monitor to 1024x768.
  15. Dave, What resolution are you setting your monitor at when you watch the show? I see a jerk if I don't resize the monitor to 1280x768 (it's wide-screen), the same as most of my sequences.
  16. Hi, Manfred, I just noticed your message, and don't remember if I replied to it or not. I'm not quite sure what you want Adjustor to do for you - it's just a spreadsheet model that depends entirely on the data input to it by the user, so I doubt if it would be able to resolve music times, especially if selections are not ending where you think they should. Adjustor will probably just "think" the same as you do, so may not be of any use in this case. Adjustor deals only with the timing of the slides and transitions, and identifies objects, but not the actual times of the music. You may have to check the music selections in a sound editor to determine what is really happening. Please let me know if I am misinterpreting your request. Sorry for the late reply, but, as Ken said, I was on vacation when your request was posted and was out of internet contact in the north-eastern part of Canada for most of the time.
  17. Dom, I think the links are working OK - one just has to remember to close them, or otherwise return the focus to the menu, in order to continue to make other selections. This seems to be normal for version 5.
  18. Doug, Selecting "Sync show" does not change the timing (after all, "sync" mode is now the default setting in PTE v.5, so you don't have to set anything in order to activate it). Four seconds apart is the default "sync" timing, so if you wish to have a different time "on-screen" (between transitions), you can either set this manually through Proj Options and/or Customize Slide, or via the timeline. With the latter there are several options. You can delete all of the transitions and then set them back up using the "New transition" button, according to the beat of the music as you listen to it "Play", or you can select "Timed Points / Add all points" to spread all transitions evenly over the time of the music. Or, if you like a little more variety and sophistication, you can manually move the transitions around to coincide with the beats as indicated by the "Waveform". Lots of options in PTE - that's what's so wonderful about it!
  19. Mariner, Welcome to the Forum! I don't know about Nikon NX, but in the Nikon "browser" it is possible to select a group of images and resize them and save them to a different directory, and change the names, too, if necessary. In PTE, the default setting is "Fit to slide", and PTE will downsize original images of the size you indicated, but it is generally advisable to first reduce the images from the "fresh from camera" size to something more manageable and less taxing of the computer resources, as Lin and Peter suggested.
  20. Terry, You say that slide 5 starts after 8 seconds of music. I usually start my shows with a black slide (with a small file size) and wait for three or four seconds before adding the first main slide, just to let the program initialize. Slide 5 in my shows isn't normally set to start at least until around the 15-second mark. Maybe delaying the start of the show and adding 3 or 4 seconds of silence at the beginning would help in your case, too. The file sizes you mention are not abnormally large, provided you have the video memory to handle them, provided they have been resized to a reasonable resolution as well (say 1024x768, or thereabouts). Also, if you are not doing so, try setting the pc monitor to the same resolution as the images. You say you have tried using mp3 versions of the music, so the music should not be a problem. However, what happens if you temporarily remove the music? We'll get to the bottom of this yet.
  21. Just received this note from AVG Technical Support: "This false positive detection will be removed within the next Virus Base update of AVG. Afterwards, the file should be no longer detected as a virus."
  22. Esc, Thanks for reminding us of this excellent and very moving show, and for bringing this news item to our attention. I dug back in my archived slideshows today and watched over again Tilman Kleinhans' masterpiece, with its sharp, de-saturated, sepia-toned images, with just a hint of accent colour here and there, and was just as impressed and moved by it as the first time I saw it, about 2 years ago. I first heard about this ghastly incident of the 2nd World War which occurred at Oradour-sur-Glane in France, through this award-winning AV sequence, and it is just as poignant today as it was then. Tilman, if you are reading this, it might be appropriate to post your AV again for the benefit of all the newcomers to PTE who have not had the opportunity to see it. After all, it's all about "lest we forget", or as the French so succinctly put it, "souviens toi". Note: I just realized that this sequence is still available on page 9 of Beechbrook - well worth downloading if one hasn't done so already.
  23. Well, it would depend on how many slides you had in your presentation, of course.
  24. That should not pose a problem - depending on the pc setup and characteristics of the images, etc., PTE should be able to handle durations of approx. 1/10 sec. without any problem. In PTE 5 there should not be a delay at all, just skipped slides if they are too close together. What type of video card and how much memory? How large are your images, and what type of music files are you using? Do you have a lot of objects added in O&A? Try shutting down all other non-essential processes running along with your show.
  25. Karl, You could make a little text object showing "paused", or some appropriate message, and have it appear right at the end of each slide's appearance on screen, where it stops to wait for the next manual signal. This could be copied to each slide, and then adjusted to the appropriate timing on-screen.
