Automatic translation is terrible! And particularly for this type of text where there is much specialized terms. Just an example that you can see and appreciate in the last lines of the translated text copied by Ken. On one line you can read '1200 montages for free download' and further down 'over 1200 packages for free download'. That is supposed to be the translation of "slideshows"... two different terms that have no meaning whatsoever in English in this context ! When I think at all the hard work that Aginum has done for producing a professional quality manual (even the layout is professional as it's also a real printed book - do you guys still know what a book is? ) it's a real shame to see all that destroyed by a less than poor translation. On top of that, you should know that Aginum has already produced 4 versions of his book, and that he keeps it updated following all new PTE versions. The original work of the author should be respected.

The reason is quite simple: the French user's guide isn't a translation from the English. It's an entirely new and different book created by Jean-Charles Pizolatto (Aginum, here) from scratch with his own ideas and approach. It's not merely a listing and description of functions, as is primarily the English manual, but it explains in depth 'how to' use all of them.

It's easy to do for all the slides with a few clicks only! Go to Project Options > Tab "Comments". Then, at the bottom of the pop-up window, click on "Insert Template" and choose "Picture name" or "Picture name (with extension)", and click on "Set for existing slides". You can choose how and where this comment will appear on the slide with the various settings above in the same window. That's all ! There's something that I don't understand here. As some of you may know, I'm in charge of the French 'DiaporamaForum' dedicated to slideshows, most of them being made with PTE. For safety reasons, I keep at home on an external hard drive a copy of the slideshows posted on this forum. As of now, I have 2901 EXE files, corresponding to 55 GB on this external hard drive. These files are dated from Feb. 2002 to Dec. 2011 (i.e. more than 9 years!) and 90% of them have been produced with PTE. None of these files have ever been found infected, although obviously the PCs, the operating system, and the antivirus have been changed several times during this period... and the whole system has been scanned everyday for virus during these 9+ years ! The only files that have been found virus-infected are the two referred to by Ken some days ago; they may well be genuinely virus-infected. I repeat that 2901 exe files are reported as virus-free, and more than 90% of them are PTE-produced shows, the time-span being more than 9 years, corresponding to several PTE versions.

I can confirm that the 2 exe Ken is referring to are blocked by MSE. It could well be that these aren't false positives but that the files do really containe malware. Who knows... On DiaporamaForum, among all various and numerous false positives cases, we had once a member whot really had a virus in her exe file because her PC had been infected shortly before she created the exe.

I think that he's back, as he released v 7.0.3 and we had several e-mail exchanges, the last one being yesterday.

To be honest, I don't understand why you keep on 'testing', alarming people and filling pages of this forum when it's obvious and proven that this software is faulty and just not reliable. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not, finding malware in the very same file where there was none, depending upon the release. Too much attention and time have now been devoted to it. There are professional and free alternatives to this scam.

To add a little relaxation note to this - long, interesting and useful - thread, and to remind you, Dave, of some nice Mosel landscapes, I have put on my website 3 pictures taken last Sunday, starting from this page. They are virus-free (just saying this so as not to be off topic)

You should make a test with VirusTotal; the file will be scanned online by several (I think it's 30) anti-malware tools, and if only 2-3 report a Trojan then it's more than likely a false positive. It' free and fairly quick. Good on you, Robert that you also use Microsoft Security Essentials ! It should be more widely known and used. The motorbike is very fine, thank you... it drove me last Sunday along the River Mosel where the light and coulours where amazing !

On our French DiaporamaForum, we have quite regularly members reporting the same problems (Trojan Horses malwares found in .exe files) with either Avast, AVG or Kaspersky anti-virus softwares (I think that they share the same engines and databases). In 95% of the cases, after complaints sent to the said anti-virus companies with the so-called infected files, they acknowledged that their alerts were only 'false positives'. Recently, the company which hosts my own website blocked my account as, they said, it contained several files (.exe) containing and propagating malwares, viruses, etc. These PTE slideshows having been hosted there since several years, I had no doubts at all about their integrity. But it took me several days to convince the hosting company that they were wrong. I finally won and my account has been re-opened; here's the last e-mail I got from them, it's self-explanatory: So, don't worry - these alerts are more than probably only "false positives" ! BTW: I have decided (and I'm not the only one in the French AV Community) not to use Avast (or its clones like AVG) any more and use instead Microsoft Security Essentials - its free, very efficient and doesn't report PTE .exe files as malware !

Light table = F4 (or View Menu > Fullscreen View of...) Waveform = when you are in Timeline Mode (F6 or button at bottom right), you'll see the waveform blue icon/button above the slidelist (if the waveform doesn't appear automatically - it depends on the last setting used when PTE was previously closed). Just click on that icon/button to toggle the waveform on and off. See attached screenshot:

Sorry for the confusion with terminology. The size of the thumbnails in the slidelist window depends on the size (height) of this window. You can adjust its height by dragging the line above the window. and in Full Screen view mode of the slidelist (F4), the size of the thumbnails can be adjusted with a slider in the bottom right corner of the screen

It's not really a small "clash" as you miss several icons/functions. See attached picture. Besides, as Aginum says, this is an English-speaking forum. There are 2 French-speaking forums where you could find also valuable help... in French : Diapositif and Diaporamaforum

On the top-right corner of the page, click on the little triangle next to your user's name and then, in the drop-down menu, click on the first line 'My Profile'. There, you'll have several tabs, the most relevant being probably 'About Me'. In the same location, you can also click on 'My settings' and you'll see also a 'Profile' tab and other options.

You're right, Lin, Exif function and templates need to be reworked to be reliable and useful. ExifTool is a free and powerful program which is, for example, fully integrated into GeoSetter (Geosetting program) and gives fantastic results. Anyway, I've been able to display at leat one comment from one Exif tag ! As can be seen from the screenshot below, the 'Exif.Description' parameter displays what is in the 'Description/Comments' Exif field, which is not very logical. The other standard fields (like Location [Country, State, City], Keywords, etc.) can't be displayed, although they could be useful, for example in the case of a travel show.

I think that what appears in Celou's post is one of the numerous surprises we get with automatic translation! His original sentence was most probably written in French (as Celou doesn't speak English) and then "translated" in this funny way by one of these miracle softwares... I think that he wrote something like "Il y a un temps pour chaque chose et chaque chose en son temps, soyons heureux avec ce qui nous est proposé" which I would translate as: "Everything has its own time, and there is a specific time for everything; let's be happy with what is proposed to us". This is my understanding after long thoughts; I hope that I'm not too wrong...
