  1. Very clever. Why was there no eclipse when the moon passed between the earth and the sun? Ron [uK]
  2. Ron I am not Al by the way, although I did give you the earlier advice. However, I have just opened in Version 5.0 Beta #5 my "HMS Gloucester" project, which was prepared in an earlier Beta of Version 5.0, probably 2 or 3, and "Created a slideshow as" with no ill effects. Ron [uK]
  3. Ron I still have "Create slideshow as" in Beta #5 and have used it. Perhaps you should try downloading it again. Good luck. Ron [uK]
  4. Reference Lin's last post and paragraph, in Photoshop I do not use the Crop tool. I use the Rectangular Marquee tool set to Fixed Aspect Ratio, Width 4 and Height 3, drag a frame over the required area and then use Image>Crop. Then when I have finished any final work on the image I resize Image>Image Size to 1024x768 (the latter dimension is automatic if Constrained Aspect Ratio is set) and File>Save for Web. I have the resize and Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask set as an action. I could have included Save for Web in the action but I prefer to have one further look at the sharpening effect and make any final adjustments where necessary. Just another way for what it is worth. Ron [uK]
  5. I too have a problem with colour recognition, particularly with grey and green. Whilst I can see the difference, in some cases I cannot say which is grey and which is green. In Brian's example it is easy to see the difference but like Bruce the one on the right has a definite yellow in its composition. I sometimes use the dropper tool in Photoshop to find out a colours composition. Ron [uK]
  6. Thanks Ron, that is excellent. I read the PDF as I printed it off and I noticed that there were quite a few places where I will find it a very useful reference. It is those places where up till now I have been using "trial and error". Two points which may be of interest to you. One is that I use yellow as my basic (I use Blending Options a lot) text colour and find it does not show up well on the transparent (chequered background). So, at Item 1.4, I create a copy layer of the background and fill it with a suitable colour. This can be switched off once the text layer is complete. The other point is that, at Item 1.9, I save my *.psd file for any future amendments. I based my preliminary experiments with scrolling text on Ian Bateman's "Chariots of Fire". There his scrolling text moves up from the bottom of the picture and out at the top. But it also tapers as it goes, which means you have to decrease the width of your text at the end point off the top of the screen. However I find, in order to make it more realistic, is to also taper the text in Photoshop, before saving as a *.png file. Not something however to include in your initial tutorial and confuse the issue. Good luck with your future endeavours Ron [uK]
  7. I wrote the following in a thread "Buttons Don't Work" initiated on Feb 27 2005 I create coloured squares or rectangles in Photoshop, using File>New and completing the details in the drop down window. Bearing in mind that I use 1024x768 format, I can judge the sizes of the buttons that I want. For instance I have a square 100 pixels by 100 pixels and a rectangle 500 pixels width by 40 pixels height. I save them with titles Invisible 100.100 and Invisible 500.40 respectively and keep them all in a special folder. To use them in PTE>Object Editor, click on the Picture button top left and call up the size "Button" that you want. Position it over the spot in the image where you want it, right click, select Properties, check Transparent Background and away you go. If you want more than one of these buttons for the particular action, before you make it transparent right click on the button and select Copy. Hold the Ctrl key down then press the number of times you want the extra buttons and the Objects window top left will count up. The extra buttons will be stacked on top of the original button and you just drag them over from there to wherever you want them. Ron [uK]
  8. Very clever and very subtle. So imperceptible at first, but on second viewing one is able to appreciate your technique. Thanks for the idea. Ron [uK]
  9. While we wait an answer from you Paul to Ken's request for the specification of your video card, I have dowloaded and viewed your sequence. It is short and sweet but a great indication of what can be achieved. (Makes me thirsty as Strongbow cider comes to mind - Sorry a UK advert]. There were no stutters on my playback. Ron [uK]
  10. A very well prepared presentation with some excellent images and a catchy tune. Thanks Ron [uK]
  11. Ron That was excellent in every way but I think now you could do the whole thing now in Version 5.0 beta #4. What you cannot do at the moment in Version 5.0 is use the Object Editor parts which are available in Version 4.0. It was this that I demonstrated in my initial posting "Versions 4.0 and 5.0 - Interim arrangements" on 16 July 2006. I had some useful comments from my peers and had hoped for one from you. Keep up the good work and best wishes Ron [uK]
  12. Thanks Igor and team for the latest additions to Version 5.00. Don't all take that vacation together or we will be lost. Ron [uK]
  13. Jeff, you say "When Version 5 comes out I think I might just use a limited range of facilities unless I can see that a particular effect greatley enhances the end result". Those are my thoughts too. Presentation has always been uppermost in my mind and I find that Version 5.0 helps in that respect in opening a programme and titling individual sequences.. Like Ken, my vertical shots have been minimal over many years and I sometimes think my camera handling has a default setting to horizontal. My biggest problems are when I help other Club members to prepare a sequence where some of their images are in vertical format and on slide material. Thinking ahead the pan effect bottom to top in Vesrion 5.0 may be an asset with some of those shots. Ron [uK]
  14. I liked it too Jeff, although I would have preferred everything in horizontal format even if it meant setting vertiical images in a diffused background. This would have meant that you could have used the Fade In/out Effect for all the changes and not resort to the Circle effect, which seemed to forewarn an impending change from horizontal to vertical. You say that you couldn't use Version 5.0, because it is not yet available with sound and picture synchronisation. Couldn't you have got round this by using Audition or Audacity to prepare your background music+commentary and doing some gentle tweaking? I haven't tried it yet myself but I am in the initial stages of such a project. Thanks again for the sequence. Ron [uK]
  15. As a general rule my sequences are for presentation in a carefully timed programme and not for comment on individual images. If I want to produce a sequence of images for individual comment then I use a template "Manual Show" based on an idea put forward on the forum some months back, I think it was by Brian. Anyway do a search for "Manual Show". Ron [uK]
  16. Ron I cannot see that you are being too ambitious. I have mixed Versions 4.0 and 5.0 vide my topic "Versions 4 and 5 - Interim Arrangements" posted on 21 June 2006. However, the need for mixing the two may be overtaken by Version 5.0 Beta #4 in the next few weeks. Ron [uK]
  17. My grandson, David, demonstrated his method to our AV Group. He used the polygonal lasso tool to "roughly" select the image then used Quick Mask to either add or delete parts of the selection using the brush tool. However, something I would never be able to match was the speed at which he was able to work. I did use his method for the portraits in my AV Group Intro, referred to in my topic "Versions 4 and 5 - Interim Arrangements" on 21 June 2006. I found using the polygonal lasso tool needed less concentration than the magnetic one. Ron [uK]
  18. Just a separate image Joe. Some use the title slide resized as required. Take a look at the thumbnails of the downloadable sequences on the Beechbrook site and you will get the idea. Looking forward to seeing your first upload. Good luck Ron [uK]
  19. An epic. A truly remarkable demonstration of the versatility of PTE 5.0. A show of great patience, skill and photography. Well done Lin. Download took 11 minutes. Ron [uK]
  20. Welcome Royo, sorry you have been unable to download my intro. I was asked by forum members to make my whole working file available and hence its size. Regretfully, I am unable to produce a tutorial, particularly and hopefully as my efforts may be overtaken with PTE 5.0 beta #4 in a few weeks, which could bring the extra features of Object Editor into play. I did include an outline of my method in my earlier posting on 10 July. The full sequence involved a considerable amount of intricate work in Photoshop on a number of images and saving them in *.png format for use in PTE 5.0., so you may understand that a tutorial is out of the question. Good luck Ron [uK]
  21. Thanks John for the "f" tip, that is very useful and something I didn't know. The alternative which I have been using, once you have completed the text "blending", is to right click on the layer in the Layer box and select Copy Layer Style. You can apply this style to other text in Photoshop, whilst it is open, by right click on the selected text layer in the Layer box and select "Paste Layer Style". Ron [uK]
  22. ........ and of course there is always PixBuilder Studio from WnSoft. Not that I have used it. Only that I have been using Photoshop for over 10 years since switching from Corel so i am not prepared to change horses now. It is almost essential to have some form of Graphics programme for titling. When I was using slide projection for my AV's, sometimes I would photograph my prepared titles off the monitor screen and other times produce a print and photograph that. Welcome Joe and good luck. Ron [uK]
  23. John You will find it in the second post of this topic which you started. http://beechbrook.com/upload/ Click on the US Flag for instructions in English. Good luck. Ron [uK]
  24. I designed my website using Serif Webmaster software and my Telewest Broadband Elite costs £35 per month. Ron [uK]
  25. Al It downloaded exactly as I posted, namely apr.exe and played back as a film start countdown of numbers. What I have done is to rename the file as countdown.exe and downloaded again from Dom's posting. The drop down came up stating that countdown.exe already existed did I want to replace and I answered yes. The download showed countdown.exe so I deleted to recycle bin and all seems to be OK. Thanks. Must have been some quirk on my system it must be supersaturated with PTE at the moment such is my intense interest. Ron [uK]
