Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...
davegee replied to Lin Evans's topic in Equipment & Software
Lin, A quick follow up: All of the current Nikon DX Cameras (except the D300s) have true 3:2 sensors wheras none of the current Nikon FX range have true 3:2 sensors. DG -
Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...
davegee replied to Lin Evans's topic in Equipment & Software
I downloaded a jpeg from a review site and it was 6000x4000 as per spec. However, my d70, 200,300, 700 and 600 images remain something other than 3:2 I will keep an eye on new cameras to see if this new trend continues. I am not likely to upgrade the d600 for anything less than Nikon's 50MP sensor and only then when it has been proven. The other 50MP sensor took a bit of a beating in the press today so just a big hike in MP is not going to make me jump any time soon. DG -

Lin, Just out of interest, take your d5300 or d7200 nef into nx2 and add a size/resolution Edit Step. What does that say? DG -
Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...

After resizing a D600 image (without crop) to a 3:2 AR you should get 1620x1080. Depending on which way you do it (long edge or short edge) a straight RESIZE without crop (preserving the original AR) gives you either: 1620x1081 or 1618x1080 With a D700 image you get either 1620x1077 or 1623x1080. DG P.S. Regarding the D5300 and D7200 - it looks like someone has been paying attention to what I have been saying for so long -
Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...

Hi Lin, Here's a case where it gets interesting. If you resize a D700 image to 1080 high you get a 1623x1080 image. If you then apply the crop tool at 3x2 and zoom in you see that the crop tool is highlighting all but 1.5 pixels on each side. Now, if that is the way it works then cropping is going to necessitate a complete remapping of the whole image because half pixels do not exist. Doing the same thing with a D70 image your crop tool only has to "discard" 2 pixels from each side (1624x1080) - no "remapping" required (?). Would I be correct in assuming that the processor has to work (relatively) harder to crop a resized D700 image over a D70 image?? To those of you who just don't care - that's OK - just don't reply. I just click on the crop tool at 3:2 and hit enter without adjusting. DG -
Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...

Hi Lin, This thread could easily go "off-topic". If you compare "sensor sizes" for N brand vs C brand you will see that C brand is a true 3:2 sensor whereas the N brand is not. I only shoot RAW Full size images so the other sizes don't mean thing to me, but I am pretty sure that they are "derived" from the full size sensor and crops applied where necessary. The only time it becomes a problem is when you try to add an uncropped Nikon image to a 3:2 project in PTE. If you have a light coloured bg it will show on the edges of the image. I found a long time ago that you cannot ignore it or say it is "close enough" - it isn't. DG -
Crop Factor VS Full Frame dSLR - when, why and how...

Hi Lin, I have owned D70,200,300,700 and now 600. None have been 3:2. All of them have had more pixels on the long side than they should have. Example - D70 - 3008x2000. But aspect ratio and crop factor are different subjects. Are they related? DG -

Lin, Nikon sensors are NOT 3:2; a fact that a most/ a lot of people miss when resizing. DG -
Bob, It is not "strange" -it has always been Left Mouse Button. The settings in Project Options regarding mouse buttons are not applicable to Hyperlinks. DG P.S. For clarity: If the Left Mouse Button is configured in Project Options e.g. for Next Slide, there is no conflict. Left Clicking on a Hyperlink will initiate the chosen action - starting an external show etc. but Left Clicking on a part of the slide which has no Hyperlink will change the slide to the Next Slide.
-
Bob, The SLIDE is the carrier for the OBJECTS. The OBJECT, be it an image or text, is what is linked to your external show. The cursor only turns to the hand symbol in Preview or when the exe is running. You said at some point that your "transparent to selection" box is unticked, but is it unticked for the object you have applied the hyperlink to?? DG
-
Unanswered question: When you hover the mouse cursor over the link object does it change to a "hand symbol" ?? If the link object is the slide image and it fills the screen then the mouse cursor should be a hand symbol anywhere on screen. Note the difference on the slides which you originally said worked? You must link an object via the hyperlink. If the only object is an image then that is what is linked via the mouse click to the "external" show.
-
Have you tried LEFT clicking?? DG
-
Bob, I meant which object in the slide are you applying the link to?? In the Objects Panel you will see an object - an image or text object. You click on (highlight) that object and then go to the common tab to apply the hyperlink. When the exe is running you click on that object to apply the hyperlink and run your external show. DG
-
WHAT Object have you linked to the external slide show??? You have to select an object in O&A (highlight it) and then use the "Action on Mouse Click" and the selected Object must be "on top" (not covered by another transparent object). DG
-
"When you hover your mouse over one of your links in "Position 2" does the cursor change from a pointer to the hand symbol??" Do you have a transparent object "above" the links which is preventing the cursor from accessing the link?? DG
-
Bob, Can you explain "Position"?? Normally, you have a MENU SLIDE which has Links attached to OBJECTS such as Thumbnails or Text. I don't understand "Position". Perhaps someone else understands?? When you hover your mouse over one of your links in "Position 2" does the cursor change from a pointer to the hand symbol?? DG

My test with a simple menu and show made in 8.0.17: The Menu and Show are saved in a Single folder and the Link to the Show works OK in Preview and also when run as an EXE (Run Slideshow with return). If the folder containing the Menu and Show is MOVED (not copied) to a different location the the Link is preserved and when the Menu EXE is run the Link brings up the Show with no problems. If the .pte file and all images etc are in the same folder then opening the project from the new location causes no "File not Found" problems. DG

There are a few possible scenarios and I think that you are probably right. I will try some alternatives on Sunday and make any necessary changes/suggestions. DG

Thanks Bob, I will check that out and, if necessary, amend the Help File. DG

You don't press the right arrow. You click on the object to which you have applied the link. DG

If you can convert the EXE files to MP4 you can include the MP4 as a slide and not have to "leave" the presentation. To do this you will need the original Project File to create the MP4. Publish Show / HD Video. If you only have the EXE files, look at the "Action on Mouse Click" Options in Objects and Animation / Common Tab. http://docs.picturestoexe.com/en/objects-and-animation/common_tab The EXE files will, depending on which option you choose, need to be created with the same version as the show you are creating. Latest version is 8.0.17: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17226-picturestoexe-8/ DG

Updated the article: Project Options/Default Tab to include the "Cover Slide" option. http://docs.picturestoexe.com/en/project-options/defaults_tab DG

Anyone out there using a Kingston Mobilelite with an iPad?? I recently updated the Software and Hardware on both my iPad and my Kindle. I have now found that MP4 Files will not STREAM properly from the Mobilelite to the iPad (Video great - NO SOUND). When transfered to the iPad via the Mobilelite they play with sound OK. The same files will Stream from the Mobilelite to the Kindle with no problems - Video and Sound. If anyone can test this I would be grateful. DG
