  1. Does anyone know what this error code is all about? I have recently put together half a dozen short shows which I wanted to put on a DVD using Videobuilder. I'm using XP and PTE5.52. I get exactly the situation described above when I try to burn it. I've tried a process of elimination and the problem comes down to one show. If I don't use that show the burn is OK. The odd thing for me is that all the shows used the same skeleton structure but with different images, so I don't see why the problem is occurring. I might add that all the shows, including the suspect one, run perfectly correctly as individual PTE shows, as do their respective exe files. If anyone can tell me what error code 2909 refers to then perhaps I can narrow it down. Regards, Wideangle
  2. I've recently seen reference to a rather unusual program for generating even more unusual backgrounds which contain the colours of the original image. It works in batch mode as well, so you could put all your images through it to personalise them before adding to PTE. Mind you, I have warned you that it is different! Look for Automatting at www.imagetrendsinc.com Regards
  3. Thanks for that reply. You know, I'm much the same as you in terms of photographic talents, but always very willing to learn from everybody. The irony is that I have actually bought some of the materials which you described in your first comment, and find them to be a million miles from your description. In fact, from my personal experience, I would recommend them to you as an excellent way to brush up those basic skills of yours! Anyway, all the best, Wideangle
  4. Robertg Some opinions are valued, some are not. All the unjustified and unqualified comments here are uncalled for. Come on, let's be constructive please. Wideangle
  5. Have a look at www.faststone.org The freeware offerings, particularly the viewer and the batch renamer/resizer are superb, and have a wealth of features. Regards, wideangle.
  6. I too have a Nikon D70, which I have been very pleased with. Recently I bought a Canon G9, which still shoots in Raw mode, and takes extra lenses. I did it to give me something more portable, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. If you want the next best thing to a DSLR, this is it! Check out the reviews.
  7. Hi Glenys, If I have understood you correctly, you could try the following : Set up a folder with the first set of pics in it and create your show, saving your project in the same folder. (Use the names pic01, pic02 etc, or something similar for your files). Make a copy of the folder, then replace all the pic files with your new set, using the same names pic01, pic02 etc. Run the project and it should use all the same settings as before, but with your new piccies. Another way, if you wanted to be selective in which pics you change would be to take your first folder, open the project in PTE, then change each slide individually by clicking in the mainslide image area above the customise and animation buttons. Remember to save it with a new project name at the end. (I'm assuming that we are talking about PTE version 5?) All the best, wideangle What's the difference between a stoat and a weasel? A weasel is weaselly recognised, but a stoat is stoatally different.
  8. Careful, Colin..............I believe that the latest version of Photoshop now has the capability to load video clips and edit stills!!! wideangle. Why doesn't someone invent mouse-flavoured cat food?
  9. Lots of people seem to get hot under the collar about this one. OK, we have the traditionalists at camera clubs, some photo professionals etc etc who think it is a sin to mix stills and video. Fine - just carry on using your stills, but don't overlook the fact that there are lots of other users out there who are 'potterers'. There are many who are maybe just wanting to create a lasting souvenir of their children growing up, or of a parents' golden wedding, or a family holiday etc, where they have a few photos and a couple of video clips from their camera, as TheDom has suggested. They may not know too much about the technicalities of photography, and at the same time, may not want to. They just want to produce something that they can treasure in years to come. PTE could cater for all tastes, and those people represent just as valid a group of customers as those who seem to be dead against the use of video. Come on, you guys - let's have you seeing both sides of the coin, even if you don't want to use that facility yourselves. wideangle. What is the difference between a stoat and a weasel? 10. Thanks for sharing, Barry. All worked fine for me. Regards, wideangle.
  11. Hi TheDom Some excellent pieces of work again, as usual. Thank you for sharing them. (Hope you didn't break any bones on the skislopes!) wideangle.
  12. I'd like this as well. Sometimes I want a show to be used on both computers and TVs. Like nobeefstu, the edges of pictures are lost on the TV, so I tend to go through each slide and zoom to about 90% before burning the show..........unless someone tells me there is an easier way!
  13. Thanks for that Tom. What you have there is close to what I had been trying to do. The stumbling block was the perspective with me. Also, I was trying to keep the front edge in a fixed position, so that it acted like a hinge, with the photo lifting up from the back edge - if that makes sense! Regards, wideangle
  14. Tom, I get exactly the same problem with the Wnsoft site. My download speed is normally around 230 kb/sec, but drops right down with this site. Sometimes it is as low as 1 or 2, then grinds to a halt, just as you have found. At best I tend to get speeds of 21 or 22 here, despite experimenting with different times of day to avoid peak times. There were a number of occasions during the beta releases, where I tried over a few days but just had to give up.
  15. Crumbs! Stop 'loafing' around, Mike, or you will get 'toasted' by Ron.
  16. Hi Lin, With respect, I think you are still clouding the issue. If you check my first comment, I did say I actually support the idea of someone making money from their efforts. I actually agree with much of what you say, but it is not relevant to the original point which provoked this discussion. The original question posed was basically: "Should someone with a commercial website use this forum as an advertising vehicle to promote it?" Simply that, nothing more. My view is that they shouldn't. Now that does not mean to say that other members should not recommend sites and products in their comments in the forum. That is a different ethic entirely, and probably satisfies one of your concerns. Reviewing a product in the forum is one thing - selling it is a different thing. I'm surprised that you weren't aware of the Resource links - maybe there is a case for requesting them to be made more prominent? Regards, wideangle.
  17. There are two issues coming into this discussion now. 1. Charging for templates and tutorials. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. If the work is good enough, and useful, then the author deserves some reward for his/her efforts - good luck to them. Indeed, I have purchased a few items myself recently, and think that they are worth every penny (or cent!). 2. Advertising within the Forum. This is a different kettle of fish altogether. A forum is for the discussion and sharing of ideas, not for lining one's pocket. As nobeefstu says, there is already a vehicle within the Wnsoft site under the P2E product link, which points you in the direction of numerous resources, and which includes commercial sites. Some members include web addresses in their forum signatures as well. That should be enough in my opinion. wideangle.
  18. I had been pondering on a similar idea, and had posted the following several days ago: "In the light of Lin Evan's new tutorials on rotation etc, which I must say are excellent,I just wonder if this is a good time to mention this. Imagine a table in front of you with a small photo lying on it. Is there a way of rotating the photo along its front edge so that it stands up, then letting it zoom towards you to fill more of the screen? I recollect in a thread somewhere that Lin talked about rotation in X, Y and Z directions, but maybe I've got that wrong. I've also just noticed a superb template available on theDom's website called 3DPhotopile which kind of produces a similar effect but on a much grander scale, and is rather more involved than what I am looking for. Just a little challenge for someone at a loose end!!" Since there were no responses, I assumed it was not possible, or at least not without some difficulty. Now that I've looked at TheDom's Photopile example again, I realise that the perspective is not the same!

  20. Yet another very useful idea. Thanks once again, Dom
  21. Another excellent piece of work! Congratulations, and many thanks.
  22. Too many people are being complacent here and just dismissing the issue. Just because software doesn't detect anything it doesn't mean that there is nothing amiss. It depends on personal settings, which will vary from person to person. Clearly there has been some problems from the direct comments in other topics - see for example http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7700. Igor has actually recognised an issue as well now. I think the word should be caution rather than complacency.
  23. My virus detection software identified something called Exploit.
  24. Over the last couple of days, I have made several attempts to download the latest P2E RC but haven't succeeded! For me, transfer rates are up to about 220 Kb/sec on many other sites, but when I come to the WnSoft site and forum to try to get the latest version, the rate drops right down to 1 or 2 Kb/sec, and general responses from the site also seem slower than previously. Is anyone else experiencing this problem, or is it something with my machine. I use the latest Firefox as the browser, and, as I say, don't seem to have the problem on other sites.
  25. Just can't figure out what's going on when I try to access Dom's site. I've tried again and get to the site OK now - I go to downloads section and can download most things again, except for one area. When I go into 'Useful Resources' -> 'Library of Effects' and try to download a template I get : 'Sorry, only administrators can view files and subcategories in this category' Any ideas?
