  1. I can't get into the Dom site at all. I get a simple message : 'Sorry, this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later' Same happens with Firefox and IE.
  2. Just extending the topic a bit when talking about processors and graphics cards : I've seen adverts for computers with dual graphics cards. EG a current advert has one machine with TWO 256Mb 8600GT cards and another machine with a single 320Mb 8800GTS card. I guess this is 'gamers' territory but it made we wonder which of the two approaches best suits P2E for speed of processing.
  3. Hi Colin Yes, that's the assumption I was working on, too.
  4. I think I've just noticed a conflict with filenames when using the 'Create backup in zip' option. Consider this as an example : In your slide list you have slide named as pic.jpg At some later point you refer to that slide in the Objects and Animation window under Properties -> Picture, but use the name pic.JPG When you try to create a zip P2E thinks that they are two different files. Can anyone else confirm this?
  5. You might also have a look at various utilities on the Faststone site : FastStone site The image viewers are good.
  6. I've had a number of computers over the years, but have always gone back to Mesh for quality and reliability. You can modify systems on their website to come up with your own spec. at good prices. There is quite a bit of flexibility - try it! Mesh website
  7. Not quite a filmstrip, and slides not joined together, but they could be! I just thought I'd throw this one in so that someone with better skills than myself might be able to develop the idea into a template. frame.zip
  8. Excellent news, Igor and team! I'm constantly impressed by the speed at which you reply and respond to problems, and it is very pleasing to see that you react just as quickly to customer suggestions for later versions. It puts a lot of confidence in the future of P2E.
  9. Hi Andrew. My view would be to forget it! Far too many things in this life are spoiled by over-formalisation, and trying to be measurable or answerable to standards. Let's just enjoy each others efforts in a casual way - make comments and offer your personal advice by all means, but avoid pinning them on to a measuring stick. That's not what this forum is all about. Regards.
  10. That's the best news I've had all day - maybe Friday 13th is not an unlucky day after all!!!
  11. I think that there have been too many comments in the forums from people who don't have the necessary facts to hand, about when the next release is likely to be. These 'guestimates' are no use to anyone who needs to plan ahead, especially since so many of them have been way off the mark. I am a firm supporter of the waiting game if it means a better product, (which I'm sure it will), but I do feel that it would be really helpful if Igor and team can give us an update on what their current targets are in terms of release dates. I'm sure everyone understands when certain dates are not met - things happen - that's life, but at least it would be helpful to some of us.
  12. Hi Lin I was browsing through links in the forum, and have just been admiring your new Plasma screen. I wish that I could afford some of this new-fangled technology - instead I've got to make do with a few bits of wood to display my pictures. You'll see what I mean from the attachment. I apologise for the pauses in the display. It's because I have to feed a picture in from one side, come round the front to view it, then run round the back of the wall to collect it from the other side - but it sure does keep me fit!! frame_and_spot.zip Regards.
  13. Have a look at www.Faststone.org They have 4 very useful freeware programs - the batch renamer is part of the batch resizer.
  14. Ray, I too opted out of the professional rat-race after 37 years in the same sector. Once you find your balance in your new environment, it will become a great life, and, you, like me, will have the time to wait! I think that one of the problems is that Igor and team are too helpful at times! Many of the run-of-the-mill software houses don't issue target release dates for product updates - they just suddenly appear. When an indication of a possible release date is offered, there will always be someone ready to complain if it doesn't materialise - that's life! However, I'm content to wait, knowing that when something does appear, it will have been well worth waiting for.
  15. Hi Bart I don't quite understand here. Several copies of an identical animation sequence for The Lion Sleeps Tonight have been in existence on www.Youtube.com for some time now. Did you use that as material to produce a PTE version?
  16. iceberg, I don't know if this will help your problem, but a new version of ZoneAlarm is now available (version 7).
  17. Maybe Al can do a PTE presentation with a bit of panning and zooming, to pinpoint it more accurately!!!
  18. Lin Thanks for the very detailed response. That helps. Ken Thanks also, for your quick and useful reply. "now how are those users that don't have internet access going to read any of this?" That's my very point! They aren't going to be able to read any of this, so having bought the package, where are they going to get their help and support from? That's why a detailed built-in Help file for PTE HAS to be a necessity at some point, when time allows.
  19. Sorry Ken I too did not realise I could remove posts! If I may just refer back to one aspect of my comment : " If a newcomer wants to know what the 'P' button next to the 'Customise Slide' button is for, how do they find out? A thread like this would not give a quick answer." ........and your reply : "the tutorial section is not intended to do that -- they start a thread and ask which they have done many times in the past ". I was trying to reiterate a previous observation, that this forum, no matter how good (and it is very good), even with a possible collection of tutorials, will still not remove the need for a more detailed built-in help file. Re. your answer that they create a thread: how can someone create a thread if they do not have internet access?? These are probably the users with the greatest frustrations! PS : What DOES the 'P' button do?!
  20. Whoa! Steady on, everybody! I think everyone needs a little patience and understanding on this one. Comments previously made by people like Ron, who say that for the price of the package, producing a manual for an ever-changing program is unreasonable, are spot-on. It is unreasonable. Equally, it is very frustrating for a newcomer not to have help at their fingertips when they are trying out a new package. I know that the forum is brilliant and full of helpful people who generously devote their time to solving problems for others, but it is constantly overlooked that you may not have access to the internet at the time that you have the problem, and therefore cannot call on the forum to help you. I made the point some time ago that all it needs is a more detailed 'Help' file built into PTE. Since then, this has been confirmed by Igor, and he said that it is on his 'to-do' list when he has the time! So, as I say, let's all just be patient and be thankful for what we have got already.
  21. One other point - I don't know if anyone can help me out on this one. I have Ulead Videostudio 10, and that imports avis produced with PTE using the PTE codec without any problem. I also use Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus (Version 10.7), but this will not recognise avis produced with PTE, even though PTE has a tickbox for Pinnacle Studio. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  22. Point taken, Al. I'll just carry on gratefully accepting what PTE offers me, knowing that it is doing a good job!
  23. Hi Al, I have also found that the ratio size I choose in the burning process doesn't seem to have much effect on the end result. I don't have much knowledge on different codecs, and am interested in your point that different codecs do affect the quality, so is there anyone out there who can offer any advice on which codecs might be the best choice?
  24. Igor and team, I continue to be impressed by your speed of response to comments and ideas, and by your positive replies to user requests. Not many support teams can claim to be as supportive as that! Keep up the good work on what is already an excellent product, and which sounds as though it is going to get even better.
