  1. See Igor's comments here-- http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8203 PTE v5.5 Beta 1 will be out in a week.
  2. I too am disappointed to hear that, OH well, but I'm sure you are doing your best. Only one week away that good news, thanks Igor, I hope so too.
  3. Now I understand the aim you have with this project, I would say you are on the right track. The use of menu and the navigation bar would be essential to the projects success. The "3D" prospective works well. This is quite a task you have taken on. Will the final show be generally available? If so put me on the list please. Always looking for something new to do with the little free time I have. I have produced shows that require the same precise timing of the audio and images and it is indeed very time consuming. Hopefully with the addition of the basic audio editing in PTE, that Igor has promised us, we will reduce the time spent jumping between applications and also allow much quicker alignment of the two within PTE. Good luck with the project Peter.
  4. Some great "little experiments" being posted here. Tom, yours is in the lead by about $1.00. LOL

    New Show

A very enjoyable show John, thanks for sharing. As you have already gathered I'm sure, your posting to Media Fire and Zipped file all worked fine. I particularly liked the use of the music and images, they matched very well and created a strong mood. The matte/frame was well done, maybe it could be a shade darker. The opening sequence with the titles was very well done. Re the speed of the pans - I found the first long pan, (Cuillin Ridge), was a little fast but I was happy with the rest of the pans in the show.. The image used on the second pan, (cottage and orange hill with the water in the foreground), was a little too saturated for me and I think the reflection in the water suffered from a little too much sharpening. I agree that the frame with the sky remaining on screen long after the show ended was a little disturbing. Hope to see more of your work as I really enjoyed this show.
  6. Yet another use for PTE, very well demonstrated Peter. As Patrick said it is all Chinese to me as well, however the game of croquet looks more interesting than I thought it was. The suggestions I have as to how this could be improved depend on your aim. From the prospective of someone who knows nothing of the game I followed what you were doing but why did you do it? What was the aim? I think this is an effective technique for making an AV instruction manual on the game for a beginner, and to show various strategies for middle level and advanced players. There may be a whole new market here for sport and game manuals/tutorials made with PTE!! Anyone interested?
  7. Welcome to the world of PTE A-Vs and the user forum Andym, you will find lots of friendly help and advice here. This forum is a great source for advice, guidance and ideas. The sense of community helps make working with PTE more creative and pleasurable. Can you provide a little more information? -how did you attempt to add the music? -what format is the music file? Also I would suggest you download Lin and Jeff's excellent "PTE USER GUIDE" PDF document, which you will find under the Tutorial section of the forum. It will answer all/most of your questions and save you hours. http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7202
  8. Very nice effect Dominique. I think it is an appropriate technique for weddings, birthdays, family get-together, parties and so on. On my system--- Win Xp SP2+ CPU Intel P4 2.27 GHz 8 kilobyte primary memory cache, 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache. 4096 Megabytes Installed Memory. Nvidia GeForce FX5700 256 VRAM VideoMode 1280 by 960 pixels, 75 Hertz. DirectX 9.0c there was a slight hesitation in only the occasional pan and/or zoom, (about halfway through the action).
  9. Wonderful effect, you and PanosFX are a great team.
  10. I assume that the show which you refer to was Memories of Mallorca posted on 27/2. The reason I didn't comment Xaver was comments were not asked for. Often comments, (particularly criticism), are considered rude when not asked for, so I prefer not to run the risk of offending anyone and only giving critic when it is asked for.
  11. There is very little I can say about your AV Peter other than Very Well Done. I think you have succeed in achieving your aim of telling the story of the visual change, or lack of change of Skelton. On your questions: - Is the background an appropriate one? Yes, the right colour, although if you change anything maybe a shade darker. - Is the use of pan and zoom appropriate? Very much so. - Has it been over-used? In this case I think just right to tell the story. Also I though the use of the arrow to highlight the point of interest very effective. One point, I would like to see the inclusion of a map near the beginning so we can locate the village. I'm off now to check my atlas. Did you think of trying the Load files into Stack function in CS3? This would allow you to align the old/new images and fade from one to another or using masks to bring part of the new image in over the old. Just an idea. Again great show Peter, and if you don't mind I would like to show this to my camera club as it illustrates the sort of project a group of photographers with an interest in the history of their area could do. Another excellent example of the use of AV, photography and sound.
  12. It's been a while since you posted your show Dave but I needed to view your show several times over a few days before commenting for the following reasons. I found the show quite stirring. Ennio Morricone is one of my favourite, (if not the all time favourite), move composers and "Once Upon a Time in the West" is perhaps his most beautiful work, I find it very moving. Combine this with the solo motorcycle trip you did, (these journeys can be very meditative, self enlightening and even spiritual), and the story of the past you told made quite an impact on me. A definition of art I once read said that any work that caused an emotional reaction in the viewer could be considered a work of art. The last few days I have been preparing my bike for a five day trip with two good friends and while working on it I was listing to some of Morricones music, coincidence? Now to the show. The use of the surrounding matte effect and the titles was excellent. Some of your images were very well done and you should be proud of them, I particularly liked the windmill, also the road over the rolling hills, however several images were soft, (keep an eye on the depth of field). Some others had overexposed sky's as stated by a previous poster. Along with everyone else I too liked the map, well done. It may have been even better used through the show with the route progressively highlighted also it could be marked to show the location of the subjects. This would be helpful for those of us that know nothing of the area and where the photographs were taken. There is a general rule in video presentations for text which I think Peter stated earlier: the duration of the text image is timed by how long it takes to read the words out aloud twice. This would make the time on screen of your signs very long. I think this is a perfect case where some voice-over would work, maybe start with the sign then fade in the voice-over and show a few other images of the subject and return to the sign at the end of the reading. I would have loved to hear some bike sounds with the road shoots. By the way I couldn't identify the bike, what is it Dave? Over the last few years I've followed your work and each AV improves on the last to a point now where you produce a very impressive show.
  13. Charles have you checked with your service provider? In the past I have had a problem getting to a particular link, the answer was that it had been blocked on my providers server. The address had been mistakingly put on a list of prohibited links due to malicious attacks originating from this address. The admin people removed it from the list and all was fine. Good luck.
  14. Let support know there is a problem with the server, they will follow it up. http://www.wnsoft.com/support.htm Also let Igor know (PM): http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showuser=1
  15. A little more, (I think I'm now up to 4 cents worth). Looking at the downloads/comments ratio on shows I posted, I have achieved 2.9% over my shows over several years, not counting a number of PMs also received. At my camera club about 55 members attend our judging nights and apart from the judge 2 or 3 members will come up to me over coffee after the judging and offer some comments, mostly favourable. This is around 5%, considering most members would also be friends and we know each others personalties, (ie how we react to criticism), I would see this as a similar result to the forum. Am I correct in deducing that this is then about the "normal" rate of comment one can expect? I think your assumption is correct Dan and I would not comment unless comments were asked for. Some people just want to share and that is fine by me. Peter I don't think any show posted here that asked for comment has received none. Only one comment makes posting worthwhile, (it is after all little effort to post a show), particularly if that comment is constructive. Just contributing has it's own rewards. We should also keep in mind how much we learn from reading comments on others work as well as our own.
  16. Well here is my 2 cents worth. My method is to download all shows from this forum, most shows on Beechbrook and some shows from many other sites. View them, (sometimes 2 or 3 times), save the exceptional ones in an exceptional folder, save the almost exceptional in an almost exceptional folder and the rest go to the recycle bin. Looking in my folders I have 9 exceptional, 14 almost exceptional and I think about 50 have gone to the recycle bin this year. That's almost 1 a day. I find, to my surprise, most that I have commented on are those in the almost exceptional folder. Why is this so? Perhaps it's because I think with just a little adjustment/correction the show could have been exceptional and I am motivated enough to try and give it that nudge. After some thought other reasons I don't comment are: On the exceptional shows there is already a number of comments giving high praise and there would be little more I could say. Someone else has already made the same/similar comments I would make. I want more time to think about it and then there are more shows to view so comments are forgotten. As Dan said: After analysing this process I have resolved to use my limited time to comment more on the shows that go to the recycle bin as these are the ones that I hope will get the most benefit from my humble comments. Also I have a slow Broadband connection with unlimited download time, but when I only had dial-up I would still download anything less than 100M in size, I don't think this is a big issue given the average show is around 20-25M.
  17. Enjoyed the show Andrew, thanks. It rekindled many memories of similar trips done with mates over the years. Made me realise it's been far to long since the last one, must organise another soon. I would like to view the show again before I make too many comments, however some preliminary ones: - A menu screen at the start to allow viewing of any section, (whole show, section1, section2, and so on), would be great. I didn't find the show too long as I love this type of presentation, however I would like to view different parts again without waiting 15-20min for the show to get there. Also the viewer could watch in instalments, though I would recommend watching the show right through the first time to really appreciate it. -Regarding voice over the visual text, not sure yet, keep the text Andrew with or without voice. I will think about this while watching again. I found the use of the poetry helped create the mood of the show well. Very creative. -Pans all OK on my system, loved them!! -Music was well used, maybe a little motor-vehicle/road noise would help with this part of the shows mood, also some background voices while travelling, (happy talking, joking, laughing, it's all about camaraderie I think). But only occasionally used, (very occasionally). -Loved the shots of everyone taking photos, what about the click of the shutter in the sound track?
  18. Some Stunning images on this site, thanks for telling us about it Igor.
  19. I too would like to see this one implemented. The user to select the folder where auto-save is made and the time period between saves, and as stated above history is maintained.
  20. Thanks for sharing your show with us all Peter and welcome to the world of PTE A-Vs and the user forum. Your AV was very enjoyable, some very nice images well presented and good choice of music. I agree with Ron's comments above on mixing the portrait and landscape images you have found a way to do this well. 1000 miles a year, you must wear-out a lot of boots.
  21. We have been treated to a number of wonderful shows on the forum in the last few weeks and your show is right up there with them. If this is only your second attempt at a AV presentation I can't wait to see your fourth, fifth, sixth shows. I'm glad you have found, (as we all have), that PTE produces a higher quality show. The mixing of portrait and landscape format images is one of my little hobby horses, when it is not done well it can ruin a show, and as many here on the forum have shown it can be done and done well. I think you have mixed the formats well enough that I didn't find that a problem. As for the frame and matte, I too would like to see a little more subdued colour on the matte, (maybe try dropping the colour out and make it black and white in Photoshop). The frame colour was OK with me but you may like to desaturate it a little. Yes Jim I too would like to see the two pictures with the car in them removed. Good choice of music. A great effort Jim and thanks for sharing it with us, looking forward to seeing more of your work.
  22. WOW!! I agree with all the above comments!! I too am going to show this to my camera club as an example of the perfect use of the image/sound combination, in other words what a good Audio/Video is. It also displays the wonderful tool that PTE can be/is in the right hands. Thank-you very much Cor.
  23. Just beautiful and stunning Michel, great choice of music too, thank you. You make the Canon work wonders, I didn't think any image could be so sharp.
  24. Very enjoyable and a nice technique, thanks Morturn.
  25. Me too. Have blocked the member and will see what happens.
