There is the option: View > Advanced options > Load last used project. Deactivate it! Regards, Xaver

Bob, You may try the following: 1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe) 2. Look for the registry entry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PTE" 3. Export this registry entry (giving it any name), and run it (double-click) on your new computer. Regards, Xaver Munich

Dave, I do not consider the existing "Auto save" function as very useful. So, I save different versions from time to time. What I would like to have is a real recovery function, as proposed about a year ago, see here. By the way, recovery and versioning are two different subjects. Regards, Xaver

I've made the same observation with 5.60, 5.52, and 5.11. Regards, Xaver

Jeff, The audio file seems to be protected against modification, as long as it is defined as background music in the open PTE project. Regards, Xaver

Peter, My observation is the following (5.6 and 5.5): The name in the objects list will change in case of an image replacement, if the object's name (also given in the name field - Common tab) still coincides with the name of the image file. If the name field contains a modified name, PTE will keep it. Regards, Xaver

Peter, Maybe it is just an aversion on my side to organizers using data bases, e.g. I use Photoshop, but I avoid Adobe Bridge. Of course it would not be a problem for me if PTE would offer its own organizer (as long as I could leave it aside). Such an organizer probably would give rise to another discussion on usability and user friendliness of PTE. Let's see what will happen. Regarding PTE project organization, other features would be of greater interest for me: better recovery functions, copying slides between two open windows (not just the Hawk Method), tools for reorganizing paths to objects which have been moved, possibility to work explicitly with relative paths. Peter, This suggestion doesn't sound like KISS principle!? Regards, Xaver

I have some doubts that tips of the day have any considerable value, as they appear in a random order and typically do not show what the user presently needs to know. Instead of spending any effort for these tips, I would like to propose the preparation of translations of the existing user guide into French, Spanish, and German. It is rather difficult to recommend PTE to people in our country (in particular to the elder generation) if a German documentation is not available. Regards, Xaver

Bill, I think, you are right. The sequence with the girls in the left corner seems to show a video. Maybe it is a sequence of (still) images which were taken from a real video, and which have been scheduled within PTE at an appropriate frame rate. It would be nice if Jean-Pierre would give us an explanation. Regards, Xaver

Tony, Why don't you use the PTE Video Builder just to produce an ISO image of your DVD on your hard disk. It should be possible to use this image in order to burn the DVD via Nero burning, WinOnCD or any other burning tool. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Bill, Wasn't that an animated still image? I've never heard that PTE allows to include video objects (MP4, WMV, AVI etc.) Best regards, Xaver

Hi André, It is easy to say: Get rid of this stuff, if you do not intend to use it. But there are at least some users who actually do understand (and maybe use) these features, and they typically do not start a discussion on them. You can do the following, if you like, and you will have aspect ratio only: - Leave the box “Fixed size of slide” unticked. - Choose your aspect ratio. - Ignore the fields for “Virtual size of slide". But keep in mind: - There are users who want to create shows whose images should not be up-sized on big monitors: They need the feature of “Fixed size of slide”. - There are users who want to place images onto the screen using explicit pixel positions (think of productions by Jean-Pierre (JPD)). They need the “Original mode” (no longer available), or at least the “Size/Position tool” in combination with either “Fixed or Virtual size of slide”. Best regards, Xaver
-
Tony, The "Size/Position tool" in combination with "Virtual size of slide" has been introduced as a kind of replacement of the former "Original mode". Do I understand your requirement correctly, that you would like to have an original embedding (no Up-Sizing or Down-Sizing, as you say) of your big images (2560 x 1925) with respect to a screen of size 1400x1050? You can achieve this by setting the Virtual size to 1400x1050 (Screen options) and (for each image) by clicking the word "Size" in the Size/Position tool (O&A window, Common tab). Best regards, Xaver Munich

No, the "Virtual Size Of Slide" has only consequeces during modeling with the Size/Position tool. See here, and here. Regards, Xaver

In version 5.6, the mechanism of restricting the object’s overall visibility does not seem to work any longer in a correct way, even in cases, where there is only one keypoint at the “correct” position. There are examples where you can have 3 different views (Preview, Mini player, Play in O&A). This should be fixed. Regards, Xaver test_Feb23_2009_11_25_30.zip

Improved text objects in future PicturesToExe 5.7
xahu34 replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
I think you are right. The seize of the text inside the slide seems to be determined only by the zoom parameters in the animation tab. The said seize parameter in the box only seems to have influence on the internal representation of the text object, all in all not very transparent for the user. Best regards, Xaver Munich -

Disable "Auto Font quality", then the seize field will appear. Regards, Xaver -

No, look at the properties tab, after having entered a text object (Auto font quality). Regards, Xaver -
Perhaps the best contribution in this thread. Regards, Xaver Munich

Image optimization for screen size
xahu34 replied to uuderzo's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Umberto, Let me refer to a post of mine from July, last year: It would be nice if PTE would adapt automatically to the actual resolution of the monitor or projector. This would mean that it creates resampled copies of the images, created at the first run of the project file, and which will be changed automatically whenever it is needed. This is not a new idea, in m.objects these preprocessed images are called textures. Another possible feature: When creating an exe-file, it should be possible to enter the resolution of the monitor/projector where the show is meant to run, and PTE should create the exe-file including automatically resampled images of the appropriate size. Best regards, Xaver
