Thanks, I've heard about it. How did you install it, and how to use it? I tried to use Avidemux for transcoding which uses x264, but it does not like AVIs using the PTE Video Codec. Best regards, Xaver

Ray, Is it possible to provide some more detailed information? Regards, Xaver

Hi Abdol, You can go to "Start > Run" and type "iexpress". IExpress.exe is a tool contained in all Windows systems. You can use it in order to create an installation package. You do not want to install anything, but nevertheless you can use the tool for your purposes. In your case you have a show (say PTEShow.exe) and an external text object (say Book.txt). Inside PTEShow.exe you have the Action on mouseclick to open Book.txt. You create the installation package easily following the IExpress wizzard. Choose PTEShow.exe and Book.txt as package files, and choose PTEShow.exe as install program; choose also "No restart". The final result will be an integrated exe-file which runs your show and which also includes your book. Kind regards, Xaver

This is the message from the system. What did you insert into the command line? Best regards, Xaver

Please show us exactly how this particular command line reads! Regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, If I choose the advanced option "Load Last Used Project", the program behavior is exactly as you say. On the other hand, if this option is unticked, I still consider the behavior at program start a little bit inconsistent (not a problem for me). Best regards, Xaver

Hi, The problem here may be, that a change of the time interval for a particular slide via the Customize Slide window will not necessarily make the slide's settings personal (P indicator). This happens in cases when you change (only) the time for this slide but keep the status "By default (Show next slide after indicated time interval)". Best regards, Xaver

Hi Abdol, You would like to have an "integrated solution". Presently, PTE integrates only those objects which are processed by PTE itself (images, music). Other objects, in particular those which will be handled by other (external) applications (*.txt , *.doc ,*.pdf ,...), are kept out. For me this is the obvious way of doing it. Best regards, Xaver

Hi, In my PTE settings I have a particular template which is chosen as "Default template for new projects". When I start PTE (versions 5.6.0 or latest 5.6.1beta) the program shows a strange behavior: I open an empty project, fill in some images, and close PTE without saving. Then I open PTE again, and it starts using the name, the time interval (6 seconds) and the transition settings (only fade in/out) of my template. I open an empty project, fill in some images, and close PTE with saving. Then I open PTE again, and it starts using the default name "Project1", the default time interval (4 seconds), and allows many transitions. Best regards, Xaver

When using "Run application or open file" you may insert a relative address for the file which shall be opened on mouse click. A simple example: Write "book.txt" into the address field, without any further path information. If you place the created show (exe-file) and book.txt into the same folder, book.txt will be opened on mouse click, on every PC having a program which is registered to open txt-files. Best regards, Xaver

Dom, The new version does not show jagged edges, the transitions now run in a smooth way. Best regards, Xaver

Hi, A technical remark from my side. On my machine with a monitor of size 1680x1050 and an Nvidia 8500 GT card, I had some trouble with this production: The mask effect did not run in a smooth way during the transition periods. Furthermore, the image frames are slightly bent leading to jagged image boundaries. So, I stopped the show. Best regards, Xaver

mtoz, The temporary AVIs created by PTE use a codec with ID "PTEV" (C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptevideo.dll). Best regards, Xaver

Please revise the registration procedure!

Dave, I think the situation is even worse. What shall new users do (perhaps members of the elder generation) who are neither trained in using forums, nor have the necessary English language capabilities? Regards, Xaver Munich Germany -
Igor, PTE is an excellent product, and there many users in the forum who like to help newcomers. But reading the posts of jeffandtammymac from today (see here), I have to shake my head and ask myself the question: Isn't it possible to organize the registration process in a user friendly way? It is good to have Peter's FAQ on this subject. But the numerous posts clearly show that it would be much better if this FAQ would not need to exist! Best regards, Xaver

Irek, You can use the screen option "Fixed size of slide (in pixels)" for restricting the overall pixel dimensions of the screen for your show. You can insert a (possibly small) image into a particular slide in a (simulated) original mode, relative to the specified fixed screen size: Insert the image via the O&A window; highlight it in the objects list; open the "Size/position in pixels" window (Common tab); click the word "Size", or enter the original dimensions of the inserted image. The former (real) original mode does no longer exist. Regards, Xaver Munich

mtoz, The created temporary AVI, mentioned by Peter, can be used to generate an HD-video in WMV format. After creation, leave PTE open; closing it will delete the temporary AVI, which is a very small file. Then open the AVI with Windows Media Encoder and transcode it to WMV. This will take some time. The video data needed for the WMV creation will be generated by PTE on the fly. Regards, Xaver

Peter, PTE seems to cache the waveform in the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\**username**\Local Settings\Temp", using the audio file's name with file extension *.wmc (WaveMapperContainer). After deleting the wmc-file, the said effect disappears. So, the bug discovered by Jeff seems to have its origin in a caching problem. Regards, Xaver

I made a similar test as Jeff and Peter, and I made the same observation. The astonishing fact is that this bug only shows up in cases where the original audio file is replaced by a longer one. Even after closing (without storing) and re-opening PTE (and reloading the last audio file), the wrong waveform is still to be seen. Regards, Xaver
