It only means that MP3 format is now completely free from any patents. Any software/hardware developers can now add support of MP3 format without paying royalties to patent holders. It's a new life for MP3, and not a death for MP3. MP3 is a very popular format and it will be supported many many years. PicturesToExe will always support MP3 format. You should not worry about any possible problems with support of MP3 in PicturesToExe.

Gary, Can you send me all files in a ZIP from a folder which I see on your screenshot (and which is shown in the File list). P.S. Please don't delete files from .resources folder. It contains images for applied slide styles or ransitions.

Thumbnails in the Timeline and Slide list are same (priority for the Slide list). In the future version we'll improve appearance of thumbnails. It's necessary to think how to improve it and keep good spead (without need to reload thumbnails).
