  1. Ken, As usual, Google offers a confusing amount of solutions but, not the one that tells me how to completely uninstall 'Keka' Crossfade. Thanks for the tip on changing the 'Open With' command. Everything is working fine now. Ron.
  2. I have discovered the reason why the zip file is not opening, it is nothing to do with PTE or Windows 8 after all. Somehow, I have installed a small application program called 'Keka' on my Mac (don't know where it came from) and it has made itself the 'default' archive program (zip) This has now overridden the normal 'Archive Utility' that is part of the Mac operating system. I have no idea how to reset the correct archive utility as the default but, I can work around this by using the 'right click' and selecting 'open with'. Ron
  3. Sounds like it crashed when you tried to run it. Can you create the same show on XP? If so what happens? Same thing happens when I create the show in XP Have you tried making a different slideshow, maybe something very simple, like just one image, just to see what happens? OK, I have created a show with only 3 slides - the same thing happens with this. Does it have audio? There have been some problems with some audio formats. Yes it does have audio but, I removed the audio and this made no difference. If you want, upload it somewhere, to see if it crashes for other people. I have uploaded the slide show to Mediafire. this is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?l1mj577wunceges Edited by Ron West today: Very strange! I download the show from the link on Mediafire and it played perfectly on my computer.
  4. Crossfade, I will try your suggestions later, perhaps tomorrow, to see what happens.
  5. Are you creating the zip file in Win8 and then moving the zip to the mac? The zip file is created in Windows 8 using PTE version 7.5.10 (create exe file for Mac option) What happens when you double-click the app? The PTE exe logo just flashes and nothing else happens. It should, of course, open the slide show but it doesn't,
  6. I have been creating MAC versions of my slide shows in Windows XP pro for months now, with great success! I create them by using the 'Create in Zip' option and then copy the resulting zip file over to my MAC desktop. Then a simple 'double click' extracts the zip file and the usual PTE exe logo appears. This then runs the slide show with a single click. BUT, in Windows 8, this does not happen thus the slide show will not run :(/> If I right click on the PTE logo and select 'Show Package Contents' I get a series of folders that mean nothing to me (see screenshot attached) Can anyone help me with this problem please? Ronnie West.

  8. Lin is correct, in my view, and I agree that the best way to adjust slide timing is to use the 'Custonise Slide' option.
  9. If you saved the original PTE project as a 'Backup in Zip' file, you can use that to recover your images. It is always a very wise decision to create the backup in Zip file. Ron
  10. Why did you not include RGB in the poll? I bet most of the folk who voted with 'Other' refer to RGB.
  11. I have now got this sorted (I think) :rolleyes:/> Windows 8 is installed in a VMware virtual machine and is running fine. I managed to install PTE without any problems in the end and have created a small demo show to confirm that it is all OK. Excellent so far! I am having a few problems getting my head around Windows 8 but will get there I am sure. So far I am impressed and really don't know why so many people on the internet are complaining (see my post in the 'Equipment and Software' forum) I have written some short pdf tutorials to help those who want to find their way around the new 'Metro Start Screen' that you can get (free) by emailing a request to me. Ron.
  12. During my studies of Economic History, I learned all about the 'Chartists' - the people who were dead against the rise of machinery during the industrial revolution in the United Kingdom. Where would we be today if they had been listened to? Microsoft has huge experience in computer technology and have proved to be very capable producers of operating systems. Windows 8 is in its infancy and will gain in popularity as it develops. Give it a chance (you don't really have a choice) and it will grow on you. I have it installed in a VMware virtual machine on my iMac and I am already beginning to like it. True, there are a few little niggles e.g. Start Menu, where is the desktop, the 'My Computer' etc. I have written a few short tutorials (pdf) that might help those who want to find their way around the new 'Start Screen' in Windows 8. Email me if you would like to read them (they are free) and I will send you copies. They are: 1. Finding the new File Explorer and creating a desktop shortcut. 2. Customising your desktop 3. Adding a shortcut to 'Computer' on your desktop 4. Adding Shortcuts to the new Metro Start Screen 5. Creating Folders & Sub-folders 6. Windows 8 Quick Tips 7. The Quick Access Menu 8. Windows 8 Updates 9. Adding a shortcut to 'Control Panel' on the desktop Ronnie West
  13. Hello Xaver, Are you running 32bit or 64bit version of Windows 8 please?
  14. Hello Xaver, I am aware that Windows 8 runs OK on a PC but that is not the problem. Windows 8 also runs OK in a vmWare virtual machine on my MAC but, the problem is that PTE doesn't seem to install in the Windows 8 virtual machine-it always rejects the licence key. I guess I must be doing something wrong somewhere? Ron Edited by Ron on 13th july 2013 I have now managed to get PTE installed and registered but, when running a slide show, the transitions are very very jerky. Could this be because I have the 64 bit version of Windows 8? Perhaps PTE requires the 32bit version. Any comments please.
  15. Hi Dave, Yes, but I am hoping that a forum member already has the answer! There must be someone who is using Windows 8 surely. Ron
  16. I have a friend who is trying to install PTE 7.5.10 into Windows 8 on a vmWare Fusion virtual machine but, the licence key is being rejected. PTE installed OK in a Windows XP virtual machine so I guess the licence key must be OK. Is this just a problem with Windows 8? Anyone know the answer please? Ron West
  17. I realise that a slide show created with an older version of PTE will not run on a later version but when I attempt to re-build the exe file, it just will not run. I keep on getting the massage open the projrct and re=build the exe in the latest version' Queatiion: Do I have to open the original project with the older version of PTE and then create the slide show or do I open the old project file with the newer version of PTE and then create the nw exe file. I am confused! Advice would be very welcome please. Ron West
  18. I am in agreement with this also. I think that Gary is correct and consistency will help everyone. Perhaps a future release will rectify this! Ron West
  19. I have never found the image quality from a screen capture to be of any real use. Images used in PTE are normally of a very low resolution. I use 'Snagit' as my screen capture program and I find that it is better than most. Ron
  20. I have made my choices but would ask that the 16x10 format should also be retained as an option. Essential for MAC users!
  21. Hi Peter, As a moderator, will you bring this problem to the attention of Igor please, he might not have seen your post. Ron West
  22. I was amazed with this slide show! How on earth did you manage to convert those tapes. Did you use some kind of software. The final result was excellent and your skill with a video camera was obvious. A beautiful slide show (or should I say Video) that proves that PTE is a very capable program. Very well done! Please let us see more of your memories Ronnie West.
