Thanks guys but, that will just give me a full screen view! I seem unable to move any of the slides in this view :-( Is that because I am running PTE in a VMware virtual machine perhaps?

I want to re-arrange the order of my slides like I used to in the older versions of PTE but, in version 8.0.7 I cannot find the older full screen Slide List that allowed me to move slides (like the old slide box) Is that facility still available please?

yes of course it should!

Before assuming that your system is at fault, try uninstalling PTE completely and then re-install PTE 8.1 and see what happens then. Ron

Hi Lumenlux, Wow! thank you for taking the time to offer your comprehensive observations, I will be checking through them all as soon as possible. It does seem, from what you say, that there is little difference in the viewing experience of the embedded PTE slide show no matter what size and resolution that the original PTE exe file was made at. I am experimenting at the moment by making a new slide show using smaller images that were saved using the 'Save for Web' option in photoshop. My thinking here, is that smaller sizes will stream quicker. Later today, I am going to take a look through your web site stuff to see if that will help me with my own problems. Watch this space! I am pretty certain that the problem is one that I myself am causing but my experimenting has not yet identified where I am going wrong. I have already made the point that I am using the the PTE option to create the mp4 file and then I use the 'Publish to YouTube' option. The embed code is then inserted into my web site (Adobe Muse - not my existing site) and everything works perfectly at this stage but, when I do a test run of my new site in my browser (Firefox), everything slowws down and I get the dreaded 'Waiting' message and have to wait up to 2 minutes for the next slide show to begin. I have convinced myself that the original slide show was made with images (1920x1080) that were to large and music that had to high a bit rate (320 mp3). I am going to redo the slide show with smaller images and reduce the mp3 to a bitrate of 128 and see what happens. I had hoped that another forum member had aready encountered this problem and wouls be able to assist. Ron West

Mary, Please do not be offended, I totally agree with you! I gave up trying to use the search option for exactly the same reasons that you have described. It makes much more sense to adopt your suggestion of a pinned post. Ken has already offered to do this for you so why not reply and take up his offer. Ron West

I often upload my PTE slide shows to YouTube and now I want to use the 'embed' code from those Youtube shows to place the slide shows on my my own web site. I know how to do this but, I am finding that when a person visits my site and plays the embedded slide show, they take a long time to upload and play because of the size of the various files. My question is this, what are the best settings to use when making the original PTE show, e.g. image size, resolution, should I use 'Save for web' and select the lowest (best qualty)jpeg or png24. The final viewing experience from my web site should be as good as possible without the viewer experiencing upload/download problems that render the slide show unwatchable. Any suggestions? This is an excellent suggestion Mary and I would very much like to see it happen. I recently encountered some problems whilst attempting to embed the code for one of my YouTube videos so that I could run it on a new web site I am creating with adobe Muse. The problem was the up\download speeds being far to slow. I need to know the best practice for keeping such a slide show down in size. Others may benefit from this too. Go ahead and push for a pinned post on what you are suggesting. Ron West.

Thanks for the info Lin, I did a quick test with a small pte show and uploaded to Utube using the 1080 size and it seemed to play perfect. However, after reading your comments, I will upload again using the 720 option and, if the quality is not reduced, I will use that size in future. I assume that Utube will downsize the video if necessary. I am currently appraising the Adobe Muse Video designer program because it will allow me to embed utube video code in my web site. This will be much better that using my old Flash method I think.

I always used to post my videos to Utube/Vimeo as small flash files but now I want to publish to those sites by using the option in PTE. Is there any size restrictions for the video size or can I use the full HD size of 1920 x 1080. Can someone suggest the correct settings that I should use please.

I know just what you mean! I was once of those PC diehards and still like to use it on my laptop. However, I never regretted getting an iMac because of its stability and quality (it just works) PTE installs and runs easily on Windows 8 and I now create all my slide shows on the MAC.

Barry, It does not look much like we will be seeing a MAC version any time soon. Why not suggest that they use VMware fusion as a virtual machine. I use it and running PTE with it, is a doddle. Ron

The aspect ratio of an iMac 27" is 16:9 I believe. The maximum screen resolution is 2560 x 1440 so to fill your screen you should create slide shows at 2556x1440 pixels at ratio 16:9

Sounds to me as if you are not creating a proper file structure before starting work on creating your slide shows. You really ought to take a little time to learn this simple process of making a series of folders that will hold such things as, copies of original images, jpeg images for your show, sound files, project and backup in zip, together with some other stuff. It will certainly help you and prevent you not being able to find your images at a later date. If you would like some help with this, please email me (ronniewestdigital@ntlworld.com) and I will send you a pdf sheet on how it is done.

I use quite a few versions of PTE, even back to version 4.4.9, and I use a small utility that Ken Cox suggested to me. It allow you to 'right click' and then select the version of PTE that you want to load, from the contextual menu displayed. The utility is called 'Open With'. Ron West

Crossfade, You are right but, when dragging to the trash, sometimes some stuff gets left behind. To avoid this, I use a small app called 'AppZapper' that removes all trace of everything originally installed. This ensures that my computer is clear and clean. I have now solved all the problems associated with running PTE Version 8 in a Windows 8 virtual machine created by VMware Fusion and I am very happy with the final results now. I have created a small 5 slide show (without any of the new features) and have uploaded it to Mediafire in case any other Mac users want to see just how good PTE and Windows 8 work together.
