Eric, You'd better come to Munich! Buy me a beer at the Oktoberfest, and I will show you the secrets of the parent/child mechanism. Regards, Xaver

Hi Eric, Regarding the parent/child relationship, you may think of the following model: Think of the screen as being a lake, and regard a top level parent object as your ship moving across the lake. Regard the parent's child as being a car driving across the ship's deck. Thus, the child's (car's) overall movement is the superposition of the parent's (ship's) movement relative to the lake, and its own movement relative to the ship. Even if the car stops its own movement, it is still moving relative to the lake, as long as the ship is moving. The car obviously inherits the ship's movement. Isn't that easy to understand for an old sea dog? Regards, Xaver

I don't see any other restrictions. Regards, Xaver

Hi Eric, In addition to Peter's remark: You can use the text object in a similar way as images. You can add key points and program animations (pans, zooms, rotation, transparency). There are restrictions for text objects with the parent/child mechanism. Regards, Xaver

Bill, Via Windows Media Player > Help > About > Technical Support Information you can see which codecs are installed on your system. The AVI creator in PTE seems only to use these installed Video Codecs, while ffdshow (which comes with xpcodecpack or K-Lite) is to be regarded as an MPEG Filter which uses its own codecs (e.g. libavcodec). Regards, Xaver
-
A little bit more detailed: - Open a PTE project - Highlight a slide - Open the Objects & Animation window - Click on the button "Add Text" Now you have created a text object (indicated in the Objects field with default name "Text") Regards, Xaver

Hi BillPC, I would like to recommend the following procedure: Create a temporary AVI with the PTE-Codec. After creation, leave PTE open; closing it will delete the temporary AVI, which is a very small file. Then open the AVI with Windows Media Encoder and transcode it to WMV, or use MeGUI/x.264 in order to transcode it to MP4/H.264. The video data needed for the WMV/MP4 creation will be generated by PTE on the fly. Regards, Xaver
-
The "Create AVI file" (F7) is still there (and quite useful for transcoding). Regards, Xaver

"Good" is relative, it depends on the point of view Regards, Xaver

As is has been said by the author of the show himself "it isn't perfect". So, not very much remains to say. One mistake could have been avoided easily: The use of the song "Mercedes Benz". It is always difficult to use vocal music in AV productions, as the lyrics have to fit to the scene. Mercedes Benz (also known as "The Politician") has a strong socio-critical background. The original version was sung a cappella by Janis Joplin short time before she died. Regards, Xaver

Regarding the photo I would like to recommend a deeper camera position, the use of a tripod, and some contrast enhancement in Photoshop. Regards, Xaver

Hi Lin, Sorry for being clinical (typically German?) again. Do I understand your argument correctly, that in case where a Frenchmen calls you "Lèche-bottes", you will just regard it as only being "French"? Best regards, Xaver

Hi Peter, let me tell you that I have at least some kind of appreciation for you position. But in both, Eric's and my case, you should not mix up "insult" and "irony". Insult can be found in other places, e.g. here. The funny thing is that this memorable French contribution seems to be cemented in this forum, while my purely ironic remark from today (which just pointed out that Eric's advertisement had been posted in the wrong place) has been deleted. My best regards to the group of moderators Xaver

What an important contribution to the international audience of this forum (News about PicturesToExe - professional slideshow software, technical support, discussions)! By the way: There are hundreds of similar events in Munich or South Bavaria. Is there any interest? Regards, Xaver

Scrolling Panoramas for the Challenged Video Card
xahu34 replied to Lin Evans's topic in Tutorials & Video Lessons
... perhaps the best contribution in this thread. I have heavy doubts that this "new" method will deliver an advantage in performance. Furthermore it is not very nice to handle if the pano pan should run with a prescribed aspect ratio. Maybe a contribution to the silly season Regards, Xaver -

Firefox > Tools > Options > Advanced > General > System Defaults > Check Now By the way: This is my 900th post. It could have been more by using repetition and other obvious strategies to raise the number. Anyway, 900 is a nice number, and it is time to rethink the amount of time to spend for this forum Regards, Xaver -
Speed options : sections separated by default
xahu34 replied to thedom's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Dave, I think that both of us know how to use the feature, but it seems that we use the notions of "glued" and "separated" just the other way round Here PTE behaves in an inconsistent way: Switching the state of being glued or separated shows an effect in the smooth case (the corresponding keypoint will be ignored or not), but not in the linear case (keypoint will never be ignored). This is not a big problem but not very aesthetical. Regards, Xaver -

Maybe a good idea at first glance, but not at the second one! If you merge two threads the flow of communication will get destroyed. Regards, Xaver -
Maybe there is an inconsistency with the speed settings of simultaneous animations; see my post above! Regards, Xaver

Speed options : sections separated by default
xahu34 replied to thedom's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
I consider this effect rather as a bug than as a feature; disturbing for newcomers! In my understaning: If you glue at a particular keypoint, it will be ignored, isn't it? Regards, Xaver -
Hi Mike, Here is another recommendation regarding speed profiles of animations which might be useful in some cases. Sometimes you will have more than one animation of an object at the same time, e.g. the object is panned and zoomed concurrently. It is my experience that the overall animation often looks better if you use in corresponding time intervals identical speed settings for pan and zoom. Similar ideas can be used in cases where the object's animation is a superposition of its own animation and of the animation inherited from a parent. Regards, Xaver

Mike, I think that it is a matter of taste, and it will depend on the situation. You cannot avoid trials. I normally avoid any linear settings for pans, zooms, or rotations, as I do not like abrupt starts and stops. Even for an accelerated animation I choose parameters like 90/90 or 90/95. For pans which run during the fade in/out with adjacent slides, I like settings like 40/60 or 50/50. Good luck, Xaver
