Eric (yachtsman1), Are you the lot of us? Regards, Xaver

Bill, Let us consider an example: Your show may have 2 scenes, and you choose music1 for scene1, music2 for scene2. When the scene changes you change the music, as well. This can be be done with a crossfade (smooth transition): music1 is faded out while music2 is faded in. It wouldn't be bad to have an additional sound effect at that place. The overall timing should be chosen that music2 ends regularly with the sequence of images. This process typically causes some work! By the way, songs (including lyrics) should only be chosen if the lyrics correspond to the images Regards, Xaver

Igor, there are several contributions in this thread that directly refer to announcements of particular beta versions. So, in my opinion, it has not been a good decision to concentrate these announcements at a separate place Regards, Xaver

Music that has been died off at the end of the show is in most cases not a good solution. Normally it is better to have cross-fades at appropriate positions inside the show, while the final piece of music should come to its normal end. Regards, Xaver

It is nice to see all these new features. On the other hand I really do regret that the audio part the new version remains to be so minimalist(ic). Regards, Xaver

Regarding Copy and Paste, PTE shows a somewhat inconsistent behaviour. Objects in the O&A window are copied via the Windows clipboard. Hence, they can be copied from one instance of PTE to another. Copy and paste of slides in the slidelist seems to run via an internal clipboard of the running PTE instance with the effect that copying only works in the said (restricted) way (Hawk method). I would like to see an improvement here. Regards, Xaver

Peter, This is a general problem with PTE. If you concatenate pans (while changing the direction) you will never obtain a smooth curve (as offered by some competitors), there will be a sharp bend. A possible workaround could be obtained using hierarchical modeling (parent-child relationships). The object to be moved may have a father and a grandfather, one responsible for the north/south pan, the other one for the east/west pan Regards, Xaver

Hi, You must not open two instances of PTE! Open Project_1, highlight what you want to copy, and use the Copy Slide function in the slide list. While Project_1 is still open, open Project_2 (e.g. a new one). You will be asked to save Project_1. Use the Paste Slide function in the slide list of Project_2. Regards, Xaver

I looked at the KingThings font on a Win XP machine. It did not work with Office 2003, but it did work with OpenOffice 3.1. In PTE 5.6.4 I had the same problem as described above, but it seems to be possible to rasterize the KingThings text to PNG before closing the O&A window. Regards, Xaver

Sorry! I tested it with version 5.6, and it did work. I modified the workflow description a little bit, regarding the parameter "Vertical border offset", without changing the general idea. Regards, Xaver
-
Not very elegant, but it should work: Create all buttons you want to use Fill in the button texts For all buttons choose the same value for "Vertical border offset" Use the zoom function in combination with the grid in order to bring all buttons to the same height (now all texts should have equal sizes) Use the function "Horizontal border offset" in order to bring all buttons to the same length. Ray, Go to the faq section at regnow (http://www.regnow.com/faq.html) and check the status of your order. Regards, Xaver

If the images have been composed with respect to the original aspect ratio, it will be hard to change the ratio at all. Even in the case where this is possible, I don't think that an automated use of the crop tool will be very helpful. The position of the cropped area (top, middle, bottom, ...) typically will vary from image to image. Additional remark: The parameter of 72 ppi (or dpi) does not have any relevance on the presentation of the images on a monitor or a projector. Regards, Xaver

Isabel, Please look at the green vertical line with the indication "End of the last slide". This seems to be the point of time where the show stops, and it will cut the music. Add 1 or 2 seconds to the time of the last slide. Regards, Xaver

The effect of a jumping key frame, as described by Cedric Dawnhawk, see here, is still to be seen in 5.7B6. Regards, Xaver

Q about pixels size and ratio in Project Options
xahu34 replied to jjf's topic in General Discussion
jjf, Regarding your requirements, I would recommend to choose the values as follows: - Tick "Fixed size of slide" - Enter 1626x1080 as "Size of slide" The value for "Aspect ratio" (15:10) will be generated automatically. You could also choose 1920x1080 as long as all your images have the same size and you avoid animation. If you think of using bigger images and of applying zoom effects, you should better try 1626x1080. Regards, Xaver -

Dave, Why forcing the user? Why not to offer some kind of friendly configuration assistant Regards, Xaver
-
Barry, I do not think that there are big technical issues. Having the Fixed Size mode as default would surely be helpful, regarding the problem that you have mentioned. The fact that in this case the user had to enter (or select) the resolution when starting a project, could be regarded as a pitfall for newbies, as well One might come to the conclusion that some basic knowledge is indispensable Regards, Xaver

Does she speak German (perhaps with a northern accent)? Regards, Xaver

Barry, You say that PTE should "display the show at the resolution of the images". Look at the simple example of a slide containing two images of sizes 750x1050 and 800x1200, sitting side by side and which cover the screen. How to "display the show at the resolution of the images" in this case? Should it be 1400x1050 or 1600x1200? A decision has to be made. Should this be done by PTE or by the user himself? Best regards, Xaver
-
Howard, Thank you for your answer. I thought that you were thinking of something of this kind. The problem here is to decide "What is the resolution of the images?". If PTE should choose the optimal size for a show automatically, this had to work in each and every case. If the user prepares his show with images of various sizes, if he uses animation (in particular zooms), and if he places several objects into his slides, it will be a rather complex decision process to find "the resolution of the images". There will be contradictory requirements within single slides, the optimal size may vary from slide to slide. I don't believe in this feature, but I agree with DaveG that a better documentation would be helpful. Regards, Xaver

Howard, It is not clear to me what you really mean. Can you explain in more detail in which way the re-thinking should happen. Best regards, Xaver

Barry, I don't think that life is that easy. Consider the situation of a simple Ken Burns show. All images should have a size of 1500x1000. Each image should have individual animation parameters (slight, screen filling pans and zooms, maybe also rotations). Which screen resolution should PTE choose, if it were asked to do this automatically on a screen of size 1600x1200? Regards, Xaver
-
Barry, Option "Fixed Size of Slide" should do what you want, isn't it? Of course, it is not the default setting. Regards, Xaver
