  1. If I open a project and then save it as a new filename, next time I open PTE it does not open that last saved project. It does not even show up in 'Recent Projects', but once I open it up manually then it does. I regularly save with a new name when I am working on a project and don't remember having this problem before Jill
  2. I have just used the Auto Update feature for the first time to update to 10.0.6 I was very surprised that it did not ask me where I wanted to save the file. I always save the update file with the version number in a seperate folder, so I can easily go back to a previous version if I need to. It downloaded the file, but I closed PTE without installing the update, as I wanted to save it where I wanted it. I then tried to open my browser (Firefox) to go to the website and download. However it automatically did the install without asking any of the usual questions, such as did I want a start item etc. I have no idea where it has stored the download, I can't find it in any usual places. I suppose some people may want a quick update procedure, but If this is the way it is supposed to work, then I will continue to download from the website & do it manually. Jill
  3. Easy, just add a light coloured drop shadow to the text. The larger the number in the distance box the softer and more diffuse the shadow. You can get it to just be a lighter background to the text to make it stand out. Jill
  4. PTE 10 does not need to convert video files. If your Graphics card is powerful enough they should all play OK Jill
  5. Settings/Preferences/Timeline
  6. Igor, sorry but it isn't any different. Right Click Preview still starts on Monitor 2 if project is on Monitor 2.
  7. Barry, I appreciate that things are easy once you know how. But I think that going to the Timeline & moving a sllide is hopefully more intuitive than looking for a setting you know nothing about. To make KFSD the default could cause confusion for a lot of existing users, some who may also not know where to look when suddenly things no longer work as they used to. You can't teach an old dog......
  8. PTE is not a text editor, it treats text as any other object & sizes it depending on the number of characters. I also wish we could set a font size & also different colours within the same text object. To have different words in different colours you have to have seperate objects. Hopefully V11 will offer improvements in text The easiest way at the moment is to set the text how you want for 1 slide. Then copy & paste that to the other slides & just change the wording. However if the number of lines & words are very different, then you will still have to resize using the zoom parameter. Jill
  9. Try installing VLC player on the USB drive, that way you know it will be there. Jill
  10. I have finally downloaded PTE 10.0.5 & I notice that by right click in the mini preview window the preview is starting on the same monitor as the Project. So I have the project open on monitor 2 & the Preview is showing on Monitor 2. It has previously always started on Monitor 1 This was a bug in beta testing & was fixed & it seems to have come back again in 10.0.5 I didn't download the other 10 versions & went straight from 10.0.1 to 10.0.5 so not sure when this came in. Jill
  11. No doubt you will have already expected me to react in the way I am, so I won't disappoint you Change image/video Agree that this should be on by default Orange Volume Line Agree, I have never wanted to turn this off & had several people puzzled when they have accidentally clicked it off & not realised. Keyframe Time Value I very rarely if ever look at the keyframe time and don't think I have ever actually typed in a number. I simply position the keyframe where I want it by dragging. It is so much easier now that we can see the waveform. KFSD - Isn’t it about time the KFSD was done away with I couldn't believe it when I read this first line from you Barry. But then I read the rest!! I have never understood why anyone would want KFSD. As jt49 says it causes all sorts of problems. If people really want their video to continue playing while the next slide dissolves in then it is very easy to just drag that slide back by the required amount. No need for KFSD just position the slides/videos where you want them. Jill
  12. Andrew, there is no loss of quality publishing as an MP4. You have been to Leeds & seen many sequences on that big screen. I doubt if you could tell if they were exe or MP4. If your club's laptop is old I suspect that it may have trouble playing some sequences even if made with PTE9. I think that Igor has said that you can take a PTE 10 .pte file & still open it in PTE9 as long as it doesn't use any of the new slide styles. So your club member could make a PTE9 exe to play at the club. See you at Leeds in April Jill
  13. Perhaps this is a silly question, but, if the relatives are used to watching a large TV from a few feet away, would they actually want to view a smaller image? Maybe you see it as pixelated, but if they are used to this, then surely they will accept it? I know you want your show to be seen at the best quality, but would they actually notice? Jill
  14. if you can't see drive F then click on C: just below the Menu bar. It should then show all the drives available, just select Drive F & the folders should then be visible in the left hand panel. Select the required folder 7 you should then see the images in the second panel. As JT49 says just click on an image & drag it to the slide list - bottom panel Jill
  15. Easiest way is to 'Normalise' the wave form in Audacity or similar audio editor. You can set the maximum peak to be around -3db to -1db This way the volume is increased without distortion7 Jill
  16. Does this matter? I have never found it to be a problem. I just resize the template to the required size & shape Jill
  17. use a Mask & adjust the corner radius to get the effect you want Jill
  18. I keep getting notifications for each new version. Still on 10.01 as been working on a project and didn't want to change in the middle of it. It tells me every couple if days that there is a new version and the version number changed each time a new one was released. Will update next week when I get time. Jill
  19. You can Clone a keyframe - right click This copies the settings & you can then adjust to what you want. You need to use a Speed Modifier on the Zoom - select Smooth to give a smooth start & stop Jill
  20. Think you may have a 'not' where there shouldn't be one!!
  21. Hi Ken, no problem to PM me if you wish to. Best Wishes for Christmas & New Year Jill
  22. As I have said in the past, the biggest pproblem for me with Slide Styles is that they change the slide's transition time and duration. Even something as basic as fit or cover, adding a simple caption, or changing to greyscale all change the timinings for the slide. These styles which are not adding any animation should not, in my opinion adjust the timings of the slide. For AV workers, every two slide combination is unique and requires it own timings dependant on the soundtrack at that point. Something as simple as changing from 4:3 to 16:9 requires a slightly different transition time and maybe effect. So for me I would never want to reapeat anything in the same or a new project. The only style I may want to use is the cover if I had a mixture of 3:2, 4:3 or 16:9 images. But this would have to be done before anything else so I could preserve my own timings. As I normally build my projects 1 slide at a time it is just as easy to adjust as I need in O&A Maybe one day we will be given the option to preserve times when applying a Slide Style, this may make them more useful. Jill
  23. I also am a programmer from way back and like you always show file extensions and work with explorer always open on one monitor. With most programs I would just double click the file. But as I have most versions of PTE I open the version I want first. They all run happily alongside each other. I don't even have the .pte extension associated with PTE. I also agree with you on slide styles and never use them. Can't check on which user guide is opened as not on my computer at the moment. I think you can still get to the old user guides from the wnsoft website if you need them. Opening the project in 10 should not have caused the problems of missing animation. 10 works in the same way as 9. The main changes were to add the waveform to O&A and the ability to split or duplicate the waveform. Right click on a clip and you will see these choices. Other changes were to video. Do you have an earlier version of your project? I always save mine with a different name - 1; 1a; 1b etc when I make any significant changes. This way I can always go back if something does go wrong. The .pte file takes up very little space so doesn't matter if you keep several. If your slides have been messed up with a style then try selecting them and applying 'no style' it won't bring your lost animation back but may return the image name. Not sure, as I said I never use styles Jill
  24. Use the light interface and it is still the same as previous versions. Much easier to see than the dark. Jill
  25. Templates are very useful. I save all of my shows that way, as a backup. It means all of my shows are in one place, my templates folder. You can choose where this is stored. And I can easily and quickly access any show from within PTE. By copying the individual template folders to my laptop I then have the same facility there. Great when out giving talks and demonstrating. You can set up different 'blank' templates for different shows, eg 4:3 16:9 or 3:2 depending on your image sizes. Including start and end slides if you wish. This means all your project options etc are already set. The big advantage over zip is that you only take up one lot of space rather than having the zip and then the unzipped copies. But mainly to keep everything in one place and accessible from within PTE. Jill
