  1. Thanks, you explained it very well. The difficulty I see is that when you add an audio file, for instance in Project Options, and use the "trim" controls to set the start and end of the audio you are then "applying" those "trim" edits in the Timeline without saving as a new file. If the file used in the Timeline was a saved, new version of the original then it would be possible to send it from the Timeline to your external editor. If you did the same thing in an external editor you would be unlikely to save over the original file - you would Save As a different named file or even a different type of file e.g. WAV > MP3 Compare this with the Video Converter which Trims and then saves a new avi file. It is then the converted avi which is added to the Timeline and not the original. So sending the converted, trimmed file from the Timeline is not an issue. There is an ongoing discussion on this subject. DG
  2. Thanks Mur, It is nice to know why someone feels the need for an external editor. I have not experienced anything that I have wanted to do which could not be done in PTE in the Timeline. I am sure that there are features in Audition etc which will never be possible in PTE but at this time I am quite happy with the envelope features and everything that can be done with a little ingenuity. Listing the things which you feel cannot be done might give Igor some ideas for new features. DG
  3. What sort of editing changes do you want to make to your WAV/mp3 files? DG
  4. Not at all John! I just wanted to clear up the "suspect version" thing. DG
  5. What sort of editing changes do you envisage? Is it something that cannot be done within PicturesToExe? DG
  6. Hi John, Please read my post again. I didn't suggest a "suspect version" - I said: "Back in August Igor released V8.0.6 which was said to cure problems with the Playing of DVDs on certain DVD Players". DG

  9. John, The DVD-R that I just burned using the PTE Default settings played with no problems on my BR DVD Player. Back in August Igor released V8.0.6 which was said to cure problems with the Playing of DVDs on certain DVD Players. Maybe he didn't cure all of the problems? Perhaps you should raise a Technical Support Ticket specifying the make of your player and any error messages you are getting. Also list them here? DG
  10. Which version John and do you have the latest download for the version. Using V8.0.11 I have just burned a DVD-R on my PC using VideoBuilder of a 7.5 minute show with 50+ images and a single soundtrack. I clicked the Defaults Button and used the settings obtained. The DVD burned in around 2 minutes and Plays OK on my PC. I will now try it on my DVD Player (BR). DG
  11. Hi TT, Not sure if you are asking me or Lin or........? For Styles: Settings/Preferences/Templates - see bottom of window. For Custom Transitions.............create a folder on a Hard Drive (other than C Drive) called Custom Transitions. DG
  12. I don't think so Barry, If you look back I haven't disagreed with you. But I believe that understanding the implications of a proposal are important. The theory that PTE could disregard the bits that we don't want in an EXE without performing other actions was what occurred to me. The other thing is that perhaps the answer to the original problem is not making the "Convert Tracks to MP3" Button default to ON or even removing it. The answer "might" be in the education of the new users in the art of using only what is necessary to do the job rather than using full size images from a 36MP camera, WAV files and using just 10 seconds of an hour long video........and then expecting PTE to clear up the mess. Ever since I first proposed the Preferences feature this is the sort of thing that I had in mind. I was in favour of a Preferences where everything was initially ticked and and as the user became more familiar with the programme he/she could start unticking boxes. If the button we are talking about here was a ticked Preference then the new user would (perhaps) be blissfully unaware that his/her audio tracks were being converted into a single 256kbps MP3...............until he/she included 5 minutes of silence and wondered why the exe file size was so large. But is a large MP3 file size that big a problem? Not as big, perhaps, as using a small portion of a large Video File. How can we educate the new user to do the "right" thing from the very beginning? http://docs.picturestoexe.com/en/techniques/exefilesize I have just noticed that Audio Files are not even mentioned......... DG
  13. "Save As"? ....and give it a new name. DG
  14. Lin, Please disregard my post. I was in Styles Mode! DG P.S. You can create a Style which includes the Custom Transition and apply the Style to a single slide. It then becomes part of the Project for all slides. That Style is then transferrable between projects. Igor should consider a "User/Custom Transitions" tab similar to "User Styles".
  15. The file with the long silence is one case where the convert to mp3 option would/should not be used. We have the option to not use it. Keep all options open. DG
  16. Lin, Please explain more? DG
  17. Also consider this: It is not possible to Trim a file - be it video or audio - and leave the trimmed bits behind without creating a new (trimmed) version of the file. e.g. Audio file xxxx is 5 minutes long and you want to trim a minute off each end. You must create another Audio File xxxx2 which will be three minutes long. It can be the same format as the original i.e. WAV or MP3. But it is a NEW version of the trimmed file. Now do that for each trimmed file in a project. DG
  18. Presumably the dropdown will offer WAV or MP3. DG
  19. Hi Robert, I am not sure that you understood? 1 talks purely about video - MP4 and AVI etc 2 talks purely about audio tracks - WAV AND MP3 etc I was merely pointing out that there are ways already in place to deal with unwanted sections of both video and audio. If Igor can deal with this "problem" I am in favour of it. DG
  20. Robert, Whilst not disagreeing with what you say, PTE gives you the opportunity to trim the excess in two ways. 1. When you convert video, you can trim the excess video at that stage in the converter. Only the portion that you want in the Project is included in the EXE. See Here 2. Converting the Audio Tracks to MP3 when creating the EXE does more or less the same thing - only the portions of the Audio used in the Project are included in the final EXE. See Here DG
  21. By analysing the Style posted above it took just 30 minutes to convert it into this: BEARD.ptestyle Add a BLANK slide to the Slide List, highlight it and APPLY the style which, when loaded, will apear in the User Styles. Changing/adding to the letters/words is just as easy. This one is part of my current project. DG

  23. Probably next Monday. It is a National Holiday period in Russia. The version linked to above is stable and I am using it. DG
  24. It occurred to me that STYLES are an excellent way of demonstrating a technique or answering a query. The use of a style means that the "tutor" can upload a small file which the "pupil" can use with one or more of his/her own images - provided that the "pupil" takes the time to learn the very simple Styles procedures. Clear instructions from the "tutor" will help to overcome any problems. For example, add a blank (dark) slide to the Slide list. Download the Style below and go to Slide Styles, click on TOOLS and then "Import Style". Once Imported the Style will be found in "User Styles". Highlight the Style and "Apply". This Style does NOT require a Main Image. Feel free to Modify / Add to your requirements. TEXT.ptestyle DG
  25. My current camera produces 10Mb 100% quality JPEGs from RAW Files. It's "only" 24MP. The current "Top Gun" (File Size-Wise) is 36MP (?). The next Big Gun promises to be 52MP. So it is not beyond the realms of possibility that BB is right. DG
