PTE and Mercalli SAL3 - image stabilization issue
davegee replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
Am I missing something? I thought that you wanted to trim it before running it through Mercalli?? Having run it through Mercalli you could then Convert it to avi when you add it to the slide list. Having done that and got a good result, the precise trimming can be done in O&A/Properties tab. If you not getting a good result then you have to decide what the problem is and where the problem lies. If you add the movie straight out of camera and convert, what happens? Is the jerkiness that you speak of to do with bad camera technique or is it losing frames? My mov files run smoothly when added and converted in this way. -
PTE and Mercalli SAL3 - image stabilization issue

Gary, Your original post suggested that you were using Nikon movies (and that your camera is set for sRGB ) so that is why I mentioned it. If you do your trimming there and then save it and run it through the other software before PTE you should have what you want. By making the trim a "rough trim" you still have the opportunity to do a precise trim in PTE at very little cost in terms of file size. DG -
PTE and Mercalli SAL3 - image stabilization issue

Yes, you are correct, but VNX2 and the soon to be released VNXi will allow you to perhaps do a lot more before offering your video to PTE. I note that you did not comment on my earlier post? DG -

Gary, You can trim in-camera or in VNX2 and output in the same format/quality. I recommend VNX2 for this - it does a good job. DG -
The "Carousel 9" Style was built in a 3:2 Project using SQUARE images. However, it is possible to use a different combination of Image Aspect Ratios and Project Aspect Ratios by adjusting the size of the master frame for each of the nine slides and re-creating the Style. For instance the following Style has been optimised for 3:2 Images in a 16:9 Project. Hence the Style name - Nine 3:2 Images; 16:9 Project AR. Also note that because of the animation, the use of small size frames (stroke lines) around images can cause "shimmering". Please use larger stroke lines or images with no stroke lines. I also recommend a background which is neutral or graduated (not black). Carousel 932_169.ptestyle DG

Hi Ken, It's Igor's creation. DG
-
This was done using Igor's Advanced Carousel Style: Advanced Carousel_Feb25-2015_16-59-30.zip DG
-
Hi Lin, Sorry I meant repeat until escape is pressed. I think that Igor will update this version - If you look at Carousel 9, I did exactly what you suggested. The difference is that I was not able to add the extra parameters. Only Igor can do that. Work in progress. I have also made a suggestion about the BG In this case a plain or grad BG is better but if he can apply a dissolve to JUST the BG between slides................ DG
-
You will need three passes as described above to complete the cycle and THEN you can LOOP. DG
-
Add the same six images twice in the following order: 1,2,3,4,5,6,6,1,2,3,4,5. Apply the style to all 12 images. Remember to use the same percentage size each time. DG P.S. in the next pass you will need: 5,6,1,2,3,4,4,5,6,1,2,3..... until all six images have been at the front.
-
Turn on the LOOP function in Project Options or add the same twelve images in a slightly different order and apply again. The time and speed are interactive - that's always been so. DG
-
Hi Igor, It works fine!! The crucial part is adjusting the image size so that there is no overlap of the front three images at the transition point. DG

Hi Snapcam, It might ring a bell with someone - I have never experienced it. Until someone comes along it might be a good idea to list your system details. It sounds like a resources thing? DG
-
No format. Just create your project showing the problem and then go to file/backup in zip. Upload the zip file. You might have to tell us which transition - I am not sure if it is included in a biz. DG
-
You are going to have to be more specific. Which transition - and what exactly do you mean by "jumping"? The best possible way forward is to create a 2 slide project with a problem transition and then use create "Backup in zip" and post it here. If it is too big to post use Dropbox or MF and post a link. DG

While following Bert's thread on "Making MP4 in PTE" some interesting observations emerged which might be useful to some. Igor reminded me that the way that colours are represented on a display/monitor in various programmes and the way that the colours and brightness of a Video are represented when using a Video Player can vary according to the Graphics Card Settings. I can only use the nVidia Control Panel as an example. In the VIDEO section of the nVidia Control Panel we are offered the options of controlling the Colours and Brightness of Video in a Video Player using nVidia settings or by allowing the Video Player settings to be applied. I found that letting the Video Player control the colour gave best results in my case on my PC but then a different "problem" arose. By default, the MPC-HC Video Player "maps" the colours/brightness in the following manner: 0-255 are mapped to 16-235. The result of this is that the area surrounding the Video (if it is not full screen) is dark gray rather than black. In order to cure this I had to right click on the MPC-HC Window and choose "Shaders/Select Shaders". I chose the setting - 16-235 to 0-255 [sD][HD] and clicked on "Add to Pre-Resize". By having a video active in the player while doing this and by clicking on "Apply" it is possible to see the effect of this setting immediately. In my case the dark gray area around the image was immediately turned to pure black and lighter tones were brighter (less muddy). The conclusion I draw is that it is possible to see differences between an EXE and an MP4 from the same project because of Graphics Card/Video settings AND the settings of the Video Player used to play the MP4. This poses a question: Is the submission of an MP4 to a competition etc (rather than an EXE) the best possible scenario? If ALL submissions to the same Show/Competition are viewed the same way i.e. EXE or MP4 then all entrants are "in the same boat" but if some are EXEs and some are MP4s then entrants are "at the mercy" of the person(s) running the Show/Competition to properly set up their equipment. In another thread we have already seen that the volume levels can differ between EXE and MP4 because of the "additional volume control" introduced when MP4 via a Media Player is used. A judge (or a viewer) could easily and rightly see differences between an EXE and an MP4 which do not arise out of the author's actions but rather out of the inadequate setup of the equipment. Are these differences too small to worry about? You be the Judge. DG P.S. I have, so far, been unable to find the equivalent of the "Shaders" control in Windows Media Player and the result is that whilst I am able to get a pure black background in the MPC-HC Player, the same does not seem to be possible in Windows Media Player. If anyone has a solution I would be pleased to hear from them?

Bert, I am seeing no colour differences between the EXE and MP4 versions (8.0.12). DG P.S. Some further thoughts here: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?/topic/18282-graphics-cardvideo-settings/#entry122063

Hi Bert, Wrong link? All I see there is an mp4, an EXE files and a .pte file. The screen shot is not there. Th .pte file is of no use - it does not contain your original images. Can you look at your upload again and add a Backup in ZIP of the project? DG
-
Geoff, If you google "insert clock in PowerPoint" there is a video of how this is done in that package. I have no idea if the method is transferable but if not it could be suggestion for Igor. DG

Bert, The corresponding tab in the nVidia Control Panel is clearly marked Video. Is there no tab which suggests this? DG
