  1. Beautiful, thanks! The "Merry Christmas" girl has such red cheeks!
  2. How complex of an answer do you want? I am no expert on such things but have mild interest. The limiting factor is...complex. Start here: http://www.godevtool.com/GoasmHelp/64bits.htm where you might happen across this which may be relevant: The executable "image" (the code/data as loaded in memory) of a Win64 file is limited in size to 2GB. This is because the AMD64/EM64T processors use relative addressing for most instructions, and the relative address is kept in a dword. A dword is only capable of holding a relative value of ±2GB. Keep your Executables smaller than 2 GB to be safe
  3. Good to have it back. Thanks.
  4. Mark, I am sorry you have not been well. God bless you and may you have a merry Christmas and much better health next year! JK
  5. You must have a much more stable internet than I often experience when traveling. You must go to very tame places! Be thankful. All but a handful of times attempting to deactivate/activate, I have had to call Adobe. Try making your phone a hotspot with iffy Edge connection and then connect with wifi and get Adobe to cooperate. Doesn't work. This is rare of course, but has happened. Thankfully Skype keeps the cost down for direct calls when needed. Perhaps you think it is nonsense to be concerned with such minor things. I should throw the towel back at you! Getting facts right is important for all of us. I am grateful to Umas for his suggestions and examples. Barry, you are an experienced PS user. Some others here are also quite accomplished PS users as well, perhaps with enough experience and needs that have led them to explore further then only Photoshop (which seems to meet your level of need) and offer other superior software suggestions. You have good answers, but not all the answers, only those answers that work best for your limited scope of need. Keep offering those as you have in this thread. I am grateful for your generally excellent contributions, Barry, and for the excellent contributions of others as well.
  6. Well said, Lin. I have had similar experience and use your strategy including pseudonyms for most product registrations.
  7. I don't prefer it. That is my aversion. But it works. The problem is that difficulty does occur for CC users in distant places with a laptop. I too go through that process of deactivating, activating, ensuring I update everything before leaving, but I sometimes go up to 3 months away from reliable internet in remote places. Usually not more than the 30 day maximum allowed by Adobe, but I have had a problem twice. A little planning prevents the problem for you, but does not prevent the problem for me. 30 days is certainly enough for most people, but I am not most people. I haven't tried setting up a hotspot with a satellite phone and connecting my laptop to that, perhaps that might work. My backup of PS 6 works well enough for my needs. Yes, it is more hassle than not having to do it. Perhaps there are people who actually enjoy the hassle. They must be very happy. I do enjoy having the software on multiple machines and recognize that the hassle is a way to govern licensing that works for Adobe. I appreciate your article and it certainly applies to nearly all people. However, there are exceptions, I am one, for whom your "myths" are not all based on ridiculous information and irrational fears regarding Creative Cloud. Just sayin'.
  8. I have a personal and reasonable and proper aversion to subscription model (anyone who disagrees is nuts), however I also see the advantages and am very pleased overall with Photoshop CC. I travel in distant places and have encountered being unable to use Photoshop due to lack of internet. I have not tried contacting Adobe for an override, because this has been rare--happened only twice. I had an older backup copy of Photoshop CS4 installed in anticipation of this problem which served my needs completely. Because I use Photoshop presently on 4 computers at two locations with 2 travel laptops, I have to do occasionally do the inactivate/activate hassle, but so far it has gone so smoothly, that I haven't needed to buy and extra copy of Photoshop. I would certainly rather not have to do it at all. Sadly, I have found pirated Photoshop versions installed on in-room hotel rooms in huh-hummm some countries. Not that I would dare use such computers--imagine the diseases they must carry! In the end, Photoshop CC at $9.99 is a terrific bargain and the system works very well.
  9. Wow! That seems like a good price for all that. I just bought an HP Spectre--2 in 1 touchscreen, tiny little travel workhorse that I love. i7 512 SSD. I chose it over the Dell because at that time Dell didn't offer a 2 in 1 with 512 SSD or HDMI out which I wanted. I am VERY happy with the Spectre even though I am far more of a Dell fan than a HP fan. I sometimes travel with a mammoth Asus laptop, very high end. At home (wherever that is), is an Aging Desktop Dell XPS--like yours, but the 3 year old model. Half a dozen other computers sit around with various OS's including a couple with Linux. I don't play with them much and one day, when I get time, I'll toss them all. I had great fun tearing down an old iPhone 3 and video'd the whole process. Funny thing is, I don't even like computers, but for some odd reason sort of understand them.
  10. I don't do much with HQ video, but use Adobe Premiere Elements a little for video I take mainly with my 7D (the camera I mainly use for taking video--it's also my street photography and "beat around in the jungles and deserts" camera). Like Lin says, Premier Elements, like most things Adobe, is not intuitive. For lesser quality video I use video processing on my iPad which is great. 1) Vizzywig, 2) iMovie, 3) Avid Studio, and 4) Videostar...in that order of frequency of use. I know, because I organize the iPad icons in folders by how I use them.
  11. Thanks for the great List. What about good scanner software? I use Silverfast, only because I know of nothing better. It is OK, but could be MUCH better.
  12. Thanks, Lin. I appreciate how you contribute ideas and skill with lasting value here. You are confident and humble and skillful and have a heart to help. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
  13. Some slideshows seem to have comments enabled but Reviews is not. Some have both enabled. Some have none. I am not senile. I even took an online test to make sure.
  14. We used to sit at the drive-in theater making out in old cars. Is that what you mean? Then my best friend got a little red sports car convertible. I think it was a Triumph. Weeeee! That was fun! It zipped and purred and so did we! I bet PTE 9 will zip and purr too.
  15. Lin, you are amazing! (But your desktop is messy!)
  16. Audio on my Dell desktop behaved all wrongly after I installed Win10. I had to update Realtek Audio drivers and manager after the Win10 upgrade. Realtek did some scrambling with several updates over a few days, and it worked.
  17. Makes me think of Yogi Berra: "You can observe a lot by just watching."
  18. Thanks for sharing that. I never learned to play banjo, but play mediocre to tolerable guitar. I wasn't a "natural," and sure wished I could learn as fast as that video! Like learning a foreign language--learn young! A friend and I used to play our guitars together and I loved the incredible surround sound as we played different parts. Then I met a forest ranger who played banjo. I never played with him, but another friend did and their sound together was magical. Years later my daughter played so-so violin with an accomplished Jewish pianist in performances and hearing them play together was almost heaven!
  19. Good Grief. I want one of those! I love candid people pictures but am too bashful about getting in people's faces. My 70-200 2.8 feels and looks like a full sized ship cannon on the street. That bunny picture sells me! Now i just need to save a few thousand pennies.
  20. I appreciate the idea and think it is well implemented. Barry, you did a spectacular job as with everything you produce. Experienced users also have provided good input and I think Help links to a library of select, quality projects is a great idea.
  21. Color management is clearer to me than it has ever been. I appreciate your time and effort to present so well.
